Ashland was quite lovely, though the plays weren't as utterly transporting as Bourne's Swan Lake. Sometimes I have the feeling that I enjoy the plays partly because I want to enjoy them so much, or else I just get vibes that few others do. In any case, I didn't feel that The Importance of Being Earnest was overly witty or facetious, probably because the whole play was colored by my knowledge that only a few days after writing the thing, Oscar Wilde was going to be prosecuted and locked away and turn into a broken man. I loved the second act -- it was funnier by far than sticking cereal and honey into your pants (sorry, Da; I know you love MTV2). A lot of people thought that Anne Frank was obnoxious and her voice annoying, and I agree the actress didn't quite get us engaged in the character. But my perception was colored by having read the diary itself and thus having involved myself more in the character beforehand. The set was very clever, though. I really liked the creativity involved in producing the 'romance' atmosphere of A Winter's Tale, but I've no idea why Shakespeare made the tone between the first act and second act so drastic. I didn't care for the funny guy. I felt that he was more annoying than Anne Frank. But the actress for Hermione was great, and I enjoyed the visual and aural elements.

I don't eeever want to go to Great America again. My enjoyment peaked in sixth grade, and has gone down every subsequent visit. I still have a headache. But the worst thing that I experienced in the past four days was the smell of the coolant in the Ashland bus. That made me more nauseated than the sum of everything in Great America, including the crummy bus ride.

When I go to Harvard, I want to watch an opera or ballet or musical at least once a month. And I shall do my studying in the wonderful libraries, and I shall sit in clear view of everyone else, so I won't be tempted to do things on my laptop like update my lj. I shall buy ear plugs in case my roommate snores as loudly as I do, and I shall send an email to my youngest brother at least once a week so he won't forget who I am by the time I graduate.
