A few minutes into it, Al showed up, wordlessly helping to set out the glasses. If they needed more, well, he'd go make some. There was a half a car down the block with half a windshield still intact. It seemed so... out of the blue that Ciel would be doing something so kind and thoughtful. As far as he'd known, he hadn't been close to anyone that had left recently.

Maybe he actually did care, or maybe Negi was rubbing off on him. He didn't know what to think.

Al gentle nudged Ciel with his elbow as he took down several more glasses, and gave him a small smile.

Ciel only paused for barely a moment, as he saw Al join them, helping with higher-to-reach glasses in Ciel's case, and setting them out upon the tables.

For a moment, the Earl distracted himself by setting up a sort of podium, dusting off the top of a higher set chair and table that might have been used by a Black Jack dealer.

But in the end, Al did get close enough to nudge, earning the boy a soft sort of look. There was no malice, no scorn.. Not even the near-residual scowl the boy always sported.

All he could do, was give the barest hint of a smile.

Al tilted his head to the side, and his own smile warmed.

"Did you... know anybody that left?"

He took on a thoughtful look, pausing slightly as he placed a glass down.

"...I knew a few. Not very well; but too many people have left recently. I only thought it right..." He might have another reason, but if he does, he's doing a DAMN good job not leading on.

When Ciel arrived, Londo had already pulled out a few things just in case. He was not used to many people coming around or by, but he could always hope for a good turn out. This city did not have to always be so lonely.

"Good, Ciel, yes? I thank you for the help. It is much easier with a hand." And now, they would see if people turned up.

Ciel might not have been the best hired hand, but he was certainly capable of setting up glasses upon the tables, and putting a number of champagne bottles out.

"You're quite welcome. Indeed it is a much easier task when there are more than one set of ands." Just a little smile.

Londo had played host numerous times on Babylon 5 with other ambassadors or officials of his government. Or even officials of other governments. So he knew the basics.

"For most anything, this is true, hm? So whom, in particular, are you toasting, Ciel? Myself, there are a few. I would toast Mr. Jojo, who vanished a time ago, and Ginia, who left recently."

He slowed once more, leaning against one of the tables as he listened to the Ambassador speak. Ciel himself had hosted one or two parties every few months, so he knew the drill as well.

Even if he normally disliked such things.

"Mm.. That is a good question, Ambassador. I can't.. entirely say. I didn't quite know many of the folk who have left, but I do feel for the others who have had losses." He's lying, just a teeny bit. But Londo won't know.

It had taken a while for Negi to arrive, slipping silently through the door. The only reason for the delay was his own reluctance; not over attending, no, he was well intent on going. He just hadn't wanted to think about any of it ( ... )

When Negi finally snuck up behind him, he'd only just barely turned his head to see the little redhead. Just in time to get a kiss pressed to his cheek. He blinked... But he let a little smile grace his lips, even leaned over to reply the notion upon Negi's other opposite cheek.

"You are welcome, Negi-dear. I know you were torn up before... Keep smiling for me this evening." He placed his hand gently on the boy's cheek, patting it ever so slightly. He wasn't good at cheering people up, but he hoped Negi would know what he meant.

When smiles were genuine like that one, they looked so good on Ciel. Negi couldn't help but wonder why Ciel didn't smile more often. Perhaps he should have read more of those volumes that they found in the library-- no. If he learned about Ciel's past, he wanted to learn about it from Ciel himself, not from some impersonal written account.

Negi's expression turned into a soft smile as well, and one hand rose to brush fingertips against the one on his cheek, eyelids dropping to half-mast. He understood. He understood completely. "Mm. I will. Don't worry."

Killua hadn't necessarily come for the memorial. He spent enough time at the casino itself, playing around with Gon and then Kuro, that going there whenever he had nothing else to do had just become second nature to him. This whole memorial business actually left him feeling rather, well, nothing. Or maybe empty. He didn't like either feeling.

He'd never attended any sort of memorial service before, not back in his world or here in Adstring. When people died, they died. There was nothing left of them anymore. And he'd killed far too many to ever bother trying to remember them. Most people he never bothered with, and the people he did wouldn't let themselves die so easily. But... People leaving was a concept he wasn't quiet as used to. In Adstring, you never knew who the next person to disappear would be. They didn't have a choice and neither did you. Both Touya and Joshua had disappeared at the same time, just vanished into thin air. They'd both disappeared before, and who knew if they'd show up again. He could handle not having ( ... )

He'd seen him. Seen him come in and make a bee-line for the refreshments. There wasn't much beyond a few platters of fruits, and the champagne glasses. ...Or Cider.

Making his way over, winding about tables and chairs and the few people beginning to arrive, he came up next to the boy.

"You had better not be planning on making us go and fetch another Fruit Cow, Killua." He mused.

Killua had a pear in his hand by the time Ciel made it over, and he took a bite while the other boy mentioned fruit cows. What did fruit cows have to do with anything? Especially a memorial service. His confusion quickly translated to a slightly mocking expression. He was just in that kind of mood. "If I wanted to mourn a cow, I would've gone to a farm."

T'was a joke, dear stupid-head Killua.

So he just rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "I meant you had better not eat everything at the table. It is for everyone."

Still. It made him sort of proud to say he had lured Killua to come. Even if he denied it.

Hiiro had never been one to mourn for someone leaving, nor for someone dying in any sense where he'd attended anything to honour them. But after a talk with a fellow pilot something sparked in his mind to see what this had been about. The second thing he had never done was been in a Casino. But lately, he'd done things he didn't have it in him to do, he had been doing.

He took in the sights around him, he made a mind to map what and where he'd stepped, not looking unsure but just blankly curious with little emotion to show it on his face rather than in his actions. Obviously armed if anyone cared to look at him when he passed, PCD and gun tucked into the back of his spandex; no intent to have used it.

He'd never met this one before, nor had he really ever paid attention to any of his posts. Nothing personal, Hiiro. Ciel is just a bit self-centered.

Either way; he's playing host, so meeting and greeting is just the ticket. Not to mention, there are underlying plans to this get-together that no one but himself and perhaps Sebastian would know about. So sad~

"Are you here to remember anyone, sir?"

Hiiro turned his head slightly when he realized someone was approaching him and not just walking on by. He turned his body toward the person that came up, inclining his head politely and then straightening. "You could say that. Call me Hiiro."

A little bow was given in respect, more just a tip of his head, in greeting. At least this one had manners~!

"Pleasured. I am Ciel Phantomhive; I hope you have a better time remembering your friends than remembering their parting."
