Haha overall I thought this episode was ok though not as good as the first episode of this series, but Gene's reaction to the prediction about a "Tyler" almost made up for it.

Ray actually being the "Tiler" however ... well, I think at this point the script writers enjoy stringing along the Life on Mars Fans just a little bit too much.

I'm still completely unconvinced by Gene/Alex *shudder* and a little disappointed by how much they've changed Ray's character (I mean he's still the searching for Gene's approval/acceptance but I wouldn't have thought he'd be the type to get involved in something as corrupt as the masons by himself. But then again I guess they were trying to set up for it last week with the way he was treating the manager at the strip club).

Chris and Shaz are completely adorable.

Oh and that icon is incredibly gorgeous, lovely work!

See, I don't know how I'd feel about the episode without the Tyler bit. But it did have it, so therefore, in my mind, any weaknesses are immediately obliterated (yes, I have a one-track mind when it comes to this verse - and anything that even vaguely refers to Sam/Gene makes me all giddy.) As for whether it's the writer's stringing the fans along, it probably is a little bit, but sometimes I'm just happier living in Denial land, and taking these oblique references to mean we will see Sam again before the end. *facepalm ( ... )

Chris/Shaz transcend adorable in a way. Usually cute pairings make me reach for the nearest bucket, but something about them two together just works so much that you can't help but like them.

See, it was the Sam/Gene shipper in me that didn't let me think Gene would go to the dark side - after all they'd done together (particularly after episode 1.4), I just didn't think Gene would go back to how he was before Sam came along. Sam was too much of an influence on him. If it weren't for that, I probably would've have thought the exact same thing as you did.

Oh, and if hating Ray is unpopular then I'll be unpopular right along side you, because I couldn't stand him. LoM S1 Ray is probably one of my more-loathed fictional characters, and when Sam decked him in 1.7 I cheered. Sure series 2 of LoM and S1 of A2A softened him, but I never got over that dislike, so the reveal that he's bent isn't all that upsetting. I'm just interested to see the ramifications, now that Gene and Ray are on opposite sides (even though Ray doesn't know it).

I just finished watching this episode myself. And I know that I search A2A for even the vaguest/possibly not even there reference to LOM/Sam - but COME ON!! TYLER??!!!
I'm deferring to you on all theories related to Sam since you are so clearly right (puts fingers in ears right along with you - I'm also rocking back and forth saying "Sam is alive..Sam is alive."LOL.) I would love it if since Alex is hearing voices, she could hear Sam's voice talking to her. (Just a voiceover, pretty please, John?)
I think Ray's given up trying to get Gene's approval and this is him going his own way. This is going to get ugly.
I do love Chris and Shaz. They are completely adorable together. They make such a good couple. I can't even be cynical about them.

Gene's reaction to the gypsy saying Tyler has quickly become one of my favourite TV scenes of the year so far. I'm not saying that Sam is definitely coming back, but that's two references in as many episodes, which my inner fangirl pretty much considers near-confirmation. Even a voiceover would be awesome enough in my opinion (because Simm's voice is lovely to listen to).

I really want to see just how ugly it is going to get between Gene and ray. I'm not sure if Gene would be able to forgive something like that, considering he is so staunchly on the other side of the fence, and it completely turns the power dynamic they once shared on it's head. It's just like Ray being responsible for the death of Billy Kemble, but so much worse because it's Gene he's betraying now.

Chris/Shaz transcend cynicism. I'm much the same as you when it comes to "adorable" couples, but those two just make it work.

Yep, this post was pretty much a long-winded way of saying exactly that!
