See, I don't know how I'd feel about the episode without the Tyler bit. But it did have it, so therefore, in my mind, any weaknesses are immediately obliterated (yes, I have a one-track mind when it comes to this verse - and anything that even vaguely refers to Sam/Gene makes me all giddy.) As for whether it's the writer's stringing the fans along, it probably is a little bit, but sometimes I'm just happier living in Denial land, and taking these oblique references to mean we will see Sam again before the end. *facepalm*
This is actually the first episode I felt anything resembling UST between Gene and Alex, before it just felt forced but I don't know, something about the antagonism between them ignited a squint-and-you'll see it chemistry.
As for Ray, I always saw him as less of character and more as whatever the writer's needed him to be (Sam's antagonist/a reflection of what Gene could be in LoM, a comic foil in A2A S1), so I'm sort of happy that they've given him that's his own, so to speak. I'm more excited to see how it will change Gene and Ray's relationship more than anything else though.
Shaz/Chris are made of win. Apart from Sam/Gene, they are probably my A2A OTP, because they are just too damned cute together.
