Yes, I picspammed again. I couldn't help it, the power of The Guv compelled me.
You’ll give up your power to a Tyler.
Let's get the obvious out of the way first - SQUEEEE!!! AND FLAILAGE!!! AND OTHER SIGNS OF FANGIRL EXCITATION!!!! I don't know what the best thing about this is. Gene's reaction to hearing that name, the fact that since there was a girl from Hyde in the last episode means it can't just be a tease, because that's 2 Sam references in 2 episodes. Teh Simm is returning bitches! *sticks fingers in ears at anyone who says it's a red herring and he isn't really returning* I don't care if the word Tyler was actually referring to Ray (whihc is a whole boatload of wrong, btw), I am convinced that there will be, at one point, Simm action. What's this I hear you say about denial over the fact that he's really gone...
Speaking of Ray, I'm really interested to see how the relationship between he and Gene will change now that he is officially corrupt. Sure, he was always corrupt in his own way, but more as an exaggerated reflection of Gene's, well, let's say neglect of the rules. This Ray isn't the same Ray from Life on Mars, he's no longer just doing things to get Gene's approval. He took this path of corruption because he as a person wanted to, and since Gene only became a Mason to bring them down, for the first time they aren't on the same side. I'm intrigued as to how all of this will play out.
Of course, these things weren't the only LoM-esque elements of this episode. Not only the taking men from behind interrogation ala Gene Hunt in bathrooms, but also the epicly awesome mind-trippy sequences and actual moments of horror, Alex forgetting things, the extended metaphors... I miss Life on Mars (but I'm so glad that, even though A2A is utilising the best things about LoM, it's still retaining the elements that make Ashes to Ashes unique).
Supermac: We have to stick together.
Gene: Well, we will in this heat.
I don't really need to say much here, do I? Supermac is clearly trying to get into Gene's towel, but Gene isn't having a bar of it because he prefers his men to be skinny and a pain in his delightful derriere.
I know this station is corrupt. I know that Supermac is as bent as a tenbob bit. And I hate the poofy, freaky, creepy, trouser-hitching, nipple-waggling bloody Masons, alright?
See, I knew my Gene wouldn't be corrupt.
Even when he was engaging in sweaty, covert, subtextual meetings with Supermac...
...or engaging in a little bit of bondage, I knew he would just be going along with it to find out more information. He's learnt too much from Sam to really go down that road.
No, this wasn't just excuse to post pictures of shirtless and sweaty or bondage!Guv. Gene is appalled that you would even think such a thing...
As an aside, the use of "Come on, Eileen" was absolutely inspired in the events that lead to the use of the above expression.
Senorina Drake, you drink so much.
Well, when you see things like this, who can blame her? This just proves, once again, that all children are EVIL! Even
Gene thinks so.
And here are some more LoM-y coma World signs. Oh how I missed the mind-trippy, creepy things that used to happen to Sam (and the epic manpain that was usually associated with such occurences). So yes, I think DI Drake has a very valid reason to drink too much.
I think you’re nicked, Doctor.
The only reason I included this is because Alex sounded hot when she said Doctor (or maybe I just have a kink for people saying the word "Doctor" in a threatening tone of voice...
Now, the obligatory Chris/Shaz “awww” moment.
Nawww, they are just adorable. I can't stop bloody grinning like a complete and utter sap.
Is it next week yet? And can it be as good as this episode when it is next week?
