Sorry, but it had to be said

I have been a longtime lurker in this community, and I have watched time and time again posters get reamed for not being "cool" or "clever" enough, along with posters who clearly think they are the cleverest people in the world poke fun at their students for not living up to their higher than thou expectations. The saddest thing about all of this ( Read more... )

group hug, complaining

I may regret this, but I'm going to leave this up. February is a month in which we're all a little tired and cranky anyway, so, just as the OP wanted to vent a bit, I'll let the comm vent a little as well.

Having said that, I'll take this opportunity to remind the OP (and any other lurkers) that, as described in the profile, this is sort of equivalent to the teacher's lounge. As in, we're all probably a little more complainy and mocky here than we are in our professional roles. It's a place where a lot of us are able to let off some steam. Anyone who teaches knows you can love teaching but still get frustrated at your students (even the best students).

Anyway. Back to that orgy clique. Who's got the chocolate mousse?

I don't, but I have Bailey's and Kahlua. We can mix/top the mousse with either one.

i'm coming out of lurk-mode just to say: LOL

and also: a post like this comes up every few months in pretty much every single community i belong to. it doesn't matter how nice or welcoming or whatever the members of a comm are, some moron who is presumably new to the internet/the world will think you're too critical, cliquey, and whiny.

honestly...boofuckinghoo.

also, i'm having a hard time imagining a situation where a prof would tell zir students whether or not they have an lj. they aren't your friends...it's none of your business!

Indeed, we've seen it before. Sometimes people try to create an alternative to ours.

I wonder if the OP has ever sat in on a faculty meeting or was invited into a conversation between professors where massive bitching about their students occurs.

Probably not, since many of the ones I've overheard are more scathing than nearly anything I've seen go up here.

I am very impressed, whatever my qualifications as a scholar and teacher, with your deft deployment of Avatar avatars.

There are A LOT of professors who blog, not necessarily on LJ, but I'm interested to see how you can be so certain that some of the professor's at the "best schools" don't have an account. [Sometimes I'm convinced my colleagues are posting on here sometimes haha].

However, 1) you are right and 2) you are also wrong. But I don't want to get into that type of argument. I do have to say that your post made me lol.
