Sorry, but it had to be said

I have been a longtime lurker in this community, and I have watched time and time again posters get reamed for not being "cool" or "clever" enough, along with posters who clearly think they are the cleverest people in the world poke fun at their students for not living up to their higher than thou expectations. The saddest thing about all of this ( Read more... )

If any post deserved a "penis issues" tag, it is this quite interesting and clever one.

emperor fabulous indeed! he needs to get back to the make up. i mean I love him and he's *so* good live, but he is not just 'some bloke' and I feel like lately he's been trying to be. It just doesn't feel right.

I was a little sad that he was just wearing jeans when I saw him on his recent tour.

Huh. Really. I know many Community College Professors, like me, who have Livejournals. Maybe even some of them lurk here.

So, I'm really glad you've gone to some of the "best schools," but I'm a bit sad that those very wonderful schools neglected to impart any wisdom at all about the nature of generalization and the dangers of wiping wholesale populations with the same brush.

Oh, and, by the way, I chose to be a Community College professor because I sincerely enjoy the diversity of academic experience my students have. I don't have to be here because I couldn't get a job elsewhere.

Just in case anyone *else* has more generalizations to spout today.

The "some of the best schools" part got me. Couldn't actually graduate from any of them? Amazingly, they all let you register for classes (as well as visit/tour the campus) without being admitted as a degree seeking student. *gasp*

Reminds me of how easy it is to read classics at Oxford.

I've had an LJ since undergrad. I keep it because I still have dear friends who post to it. Far fewer than I had seven years ago when I started it. Still enough that I maintain it.

Some day it will fall below that point, and I will fade out, my friends list no longer a link I pull up daily.

I am in this community because there are days when it amuses me.

I am puzzled what any of this has to do with my skill as a scholar.

I am reasonably certain, however, that making a broad generalization based entirely on one's personal experience is something only second rate scholars do.
