Naruto had been excited about the picnic for a while, and had gladly lent Kairi a hand with the preparations. He hoped a lot of people would come -- he wanted to actually see people, not communicate through a system. Sure, there was the video option, but it couldn't be compared to interacting face to face.
Although, if a lot of people showed up, he might have the issue of not knowing who to go to first. He wanted to talk to as many people as he could and get to know them; it felt like the best thing that could come out of being here was the possible friendships. Besides, they all needed as many allies as they could, in case something went wrong again.
After the way the weather had been for the past few weeks, the air felt more cool and refreshing than Kairi remembered even before the Fire Plane. They had picked a good spot for the picnic. And as close as they were to the water, she could almost imagine that she was back home.
It was wonderful to see so many people chip in. Kairi smiled towards Naruto and then to Ritsuka and Soubi in the distance as they arranged what they had made. Riku, Roxas and Sora weren't there yet, but she hoped that they'd all come too. She couldn't help but be anxious to see what everyone brought. Not that it mattered to her how much they had, but the sight and smell of all the food showed how much they cared to enjoy the peace that everyone fought to keep.
"Thank you for helping," she said brightly to Naruto as she combed back her hair with her free hand. "I'm surprised it all came together so well. Maybe we should do these more often."
"Don't worry about it, it was fun!" Naruto said, grinning brightly at her. He'd had a lot of fun, as always when spending time with the girl. She still reminded him a little of a sweeter, less violent version of Sakura, but Kairi was her own person, and probably one of the best people stuck here. She always seemed so down to earth and friendly with everyone, it amazed Naruto.
"It'd be fun! I think it's a good distraction for people, from all the fighting and being scared, y'know?" He said, nodding. After the Fire Plane, it was nice to take a little break. At least now they could breathe the air outside.
Kairi nodded back, never letting her smile fall. Naruto really was supportive of all of his friends, she was lucky to have met him. Even when she had started to have her own doubts about the city, Naruto always seemed to have enough optimism and energy to share.
"Yeah!" She looked behind him to see more people approaching. She wanted to greet them all if she had the chance, so she turned back apologetically to Naruto. "I'll catch up with you later, I'm going to see if they need any more help."
She hoped that everyone would get along. Maybe if they all got to know each other, they wouldn't worry so much about going home. They'd all make it through together, just like they always had.
Renton had enjoyed going to the market with Kairi -- she was a sweet girl, and she reminded him of home, somehow. She was nothing like Eureka, but he liked her nonetheless, and was glad to have spent some time with her.
He barely knew anyone, so he had no idea what to expect of the picnic, and had decided early on not to build any expectations so he wouldn't end up looking like an idiot as he so often had in the past. He'd grown from that -- or at least that's what he wanted to believe.
He spotted a younger boy further off, but he seemed to be with someone, so he wasn't sure if he could go and speak to them.
If anything, Zero felt apathetic towards the idea of a picnic. He'd never been the type to mingle, and even despite the circumstances of being stuck here, that personal preference likely wouldn't change. Nevertheless, a detour in routine that didn't involve fighting against the elements or any of the other obscurities that Nuadoria threw towards its reluctant citizens was, Zero supposed, fine.
At least he didn't mind cooking, be it for himself or others. It'd been a welcome distraction, and something he could focus on.
A couple of others were already present when Zero arrived. Finding a clear area on one of the blankets, he set down two sealed containers of food that he'd brought, before shading his eyes to glance up to the sky. The sun was partially hidden, at least, even though he probably wasn't going to stay for very long.
Buffy hadn't really anticipated the fact that a place like Nuadoria would have people willing to have a picnic, of all things. She was far more used to the blood and guts variety of alternate dimensions, which really never ended with ants and sandwiches. So she was all for participating and actually having a good time -- she had been solitude girl, physical distance-wise anyway, for most of the duration of her stay here.
As she approached the area where everyone was, she felt a jolt of... something. But she ignored it for now, filed it to the back of her mind.

Zero had made his way over by the water's edge. Going to the beach was never really an outing, even during his childhood; more often than not, given Ichiru's health and the frequent absence of their parents, a 'vacation' consisted of Yagari taking the twins into town for ice cream.
So, maybe, this was okay. The last time he'd been by the water was at Cross Academy, if that even counted. If anything, focusing on the unknown horizon beyond was enough to dull the feeling that had seeped into the back of his mind. Familiar, yet not; Zero didn't like it, but he knew better than to act immediately. Even for as long as he'd been in Nuadoria, it didn't necessarily mean he understood how it worked, or what might happen.
Well, Nuadoria certainly wasn't sunny, beach-filled California. Not even Hellmouthy Sunnydale. But it was a place she'd have to adjust to, Buffy figured, as she yawned and stretched. She felt a little... obsolete here. She wasn't exactly the Slayer when she was in a different dimension, filled with people who could probably quite easily kick her ass.
She noticed the silver-haired guy by the water. For a few moments she couldn't place who he was, until she belatedly recognised him to be Zero, who she had come to call 'that broody vampire hunter' in her head. If only because it seemed to suit him, in her opinion. "Zero, right?" she questioned as she got close enough to him. That niggling sensation was still present in the back of her mind, but she was still forcefully suppressing it.
Naruto saw Sasuke right away, his eyes widening. He hadn't expected Sasuke to show up...maybe he wasn't as bad as he pretended to be! With a grin, he made his way to him, hoping they'd be able to talk a little without ending up fighting or arguing. It worked well enough through the communicators, but it wasn't the same face to face.
Sasuke looked to Naruto when he said his name, and he resisted rolling his eyes. Of course. It shouldn't have been too much of a surprise though. Naruto would probably see Sasuke if he was hidden in a crowd and was wearing a disguise. Standing out in the middle of a field was going to be easy for the blond. Sasuke stopped walking, trying to stay calm. Apparently Naruto was of the mind set that it was completely okay to chat with new allies.
There wasn't any need to get annoyed yet, "I needed to relax."
"Ha, I could've told you that earlier! But I'm glad you came," Naruto said, happy to see that Sasuke himself was taking steps so he was less on edge. Maybe he'd be less infuriating, as well. He was also happy to get to see Sasuke, as he knew the other boy avoided him, or, well, avoided any human contact.
…Sure, he was a little late, and he hadn’t gotten to help Kairi nearly as much as he wanted to, but he hoped she’d forgive him for actually being there. The last thing he ever could have done was stand her up, especially when she sounded so happy about this whole thing, and maybe he should have been rushing to the docks given the time, but he kept his pace at a premeditated amble as he did that thing he did

It was after everything was set up that Kairi caught sight of the figure in the distance, far enough away to avoid talking to the others yet close enough to watch over them. It was as if he didn't want anyone to know he was there just to see if she'd notice. But Kairi had been hoping to see him at the picnic, although she knew not to expect too much. Of course she wanted all of them to come, but of her friends, he was the one who always surprised her

Generic and simple. He could do that.
