I'm about this close to being Internet obnoxiousness personified by starting to comment on every entry that uses the fake cut wrong. If you don't know what a cut is? You might not want to attempt a fake cut.

And FYI, a fake cut does not equal a link.

( This? This is a fake cut. )

This is not.

(Nor is this.)

( Or even this. )

Well, it took ( Read more... )

Hahaha, shitty fake-cuts drive me NUTS. ::shakes stick at internet youngsters::

I always fake cut if I'm posting fic to a community and don't bother to mention it because I figure people can figure it out for themselves, but now I'm going to be worrying about people assuming it sucks 'cause there are no comments, like someone mentioned above.

I really don't get why there's a need to mention that it is a fake cut. Or, actually, that's not true because I know exactly why - some icon communities started requiring it back when it first became popular (probably so that people would be aware that they'd be going to a different journal that might have lots of extra images, like headers, sidebar icons, etc) and it just caught on as "the cool thing to do". Except then people who didn't quite grasp the concept of what the fake cut actually was started using it wrong and it was a slippery slope from there.

I've noticed that you use the fake cut in your journal, but mostly because I always hover over links, especially when I know that a fake cut is a possibility. It's not the fake cuts I mind (though I really don't understand the reason for them) it's the mislabeling.

Maybe if you disable comments on the comm post that will take care of the problem? But then there are the comms that don't allow you to disable comments...

I am a little worried because I don't know exactly how long the show was. More than two hours could be a problem.

But I am looking forward to translating the opening sketch, and the Colbert/Stewart parts. Although I just remembered that Conan had a song that will need to be translated. Ouch!

I think the Emmy's are 3 hours, but probably lots of commercials. Have you watched any of the clips on YouTube? There are a couple of great pieces, including the intro and the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert bit.

Most award shows are 2½-3 hours (the Oscars were 2½ last time), and with commercials cut out the three hour version usually clocks in at around two hours. However, they may also edit out a whole bunch of unnecessary stuff, US specific stuff that no one here would understand or care about.

I downloaded torrents of Jon/Stephen and the intro sequence, so I know what happens there, and I can't tell you how happy I am to be translating Colbert and Stewart. Not to mention JIM!

I'm guessing the In Memoriam segment will be a couple of minutes of non-translation. One good thing about award shows is that there's a lot of applause moments. Even if the announcer is left in, there's a lot of non-speaking portions.

I've never understood what a fake cut is, so I looked at your source code and now I get it. What I don't get is why anyone would want to use them at all? I imagine it's just to be cool, but it's so pointless. Just make a link. Argh.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE OFFICE GAG REEL!

Ehem.

130GB of free space? This is me drooling. I only have 30GB total. And right now it's pretty much entirely full of screencaps.

Why can't I tell s from i today? Huh? _jems_ August 31 2006, 15:43:22 UTC
The fake cuts never bothered me much until people started getting them wrong. I really can't see a purpose for them, other than possibly wanting to fool someone into thinking that they're still accessing the same journal entry. Why you'd want that is beyond me. Like, maybe some obscure role playing game thing that I'm completely out of the loop on.

I WAS SO SAD WHEN PEOPLE SAID THERE WASN'T ONE AND NOW THERE IS AND I CAN SEE IT NEXT WEEK! OMG!

I have a 250 GB external and an 80 GB internal harddrive, with probably around 150 GB free, combined. I think that external harddrive is the best thing since sliced bread I've bought in ages.

Well, I feel better now that I know I wasn't missing out on some nifty trick with the whole fake cut thing.

I WAS SO SAD WHEN PEOPLE SAID THERE WASN'T ONE AND NOW THERE IS AND I CAN SEE IT NEXT WEEK! OMG!EEE!!! I KNOW!!! The minute I heard about the 17 minute gag reel I thought of you and your post of woe. It would have been such a shame! I mean, of all the shows to not have a gag reel! This show is all about the extra features. I can't wait to just see people cracking each other up. I'M SO EXCITED I COULD DO A SONG AND DANCE ( ... )

I'm actually a bit woeful today because I got the BSG season 2 DVDs and wouldn't you know it - no gag reel. I think that gag reel could be really funny.

Well, you know what happened with me and the finale, and I'm so worried about what they'll do now (pretend like nothing happened and I will be forced to kill someone!) so I'm slightly more apprehensive. I'm more confident in MNiE's ability to entertain me, but I also don't care about it as much as I do The Office, so that may be why.

I started realizing how unpractical it was to keep burning discs that I never used again, and I have the 120 GB second harddrive on my other computer, which was getting filled up and I just wanted something that I could just unplug and take wherever it needed to go. External harddrives aren't even all that expensive anymore, and totally worth it when you do as much downloading as I do.

I love seeing other people's TV schedules, so I don't feel so bad. Mine is longer, though. I know I won't watch all of them, but there are a lot of shows I keep on the list. Actually, maybe I should get over my fear and write it down. :)

I agree about Laura's dress - it was beautiful and the first real stretch from her. Uli needs to change things up, and soon. If Laura can do it, she can. My love for Michael continues to grow, though, because I thought his outfit was amazing. He has such a sense of style and such talent. And that fucker Jeffrey. Ah. They're really not giving him a good edit. Maybe be makes it to the final 3 as the Wendy Pepper, but Part Two, this time with talent.

Mine will probably grow in the first few months and then shrink to a manageable level. Last May I hardly had any shows left because they all bored me to tears after a while. Hee!

I liked that Laura finally did something different and proved that she could. I'd like to see the same thing from Uli. Just one deviation, that's all I ask. I'm still rooting for Michael to win. As is everyone, judging by your poll.

Maybe be makes it to the final 3 as the Wendy Pepper, but Part Two, this time with talent.
Bwahahaha! At first I misread that and thought you meant Wendy had talent. At which point I started questioning your sanity. I can't believe her dress got picked as the winner in the final challenge so they were forced to put her in the final three. Poor Austin! Biggest injustice so far.

It sucks that 'Gilmore Girls' is in your * list, but I guess after last season, all bets are off.

PS: The pilot for Justice was nice. High tech fluffery with enough smarts in it to make it interesting. Plus, Victor Garber, which won't mean much to you if you're not into Alias (I can't remember all the fandoms right now) but it is a great actor.

& I want Jeffrey gone from the show. He's just too... I don't know. But I want him out.

Yeah, I wasn't even that happy with the end of season 5, so 6 was almost like the nail in the coffin. I don't even think I'm going to download it at all, just see what my flist says. I think that if the show sucks it will probably much more bearable in large chunks, so I could watch five episodes in a row and thus quickly end the agony.

I did watch Alias! In fact, I've translated almost every episode and am in the middle of translating one of the last few right now. And I enjoyed Justice and think I'll continue watching it for the SpyDaddy factor alone, at least for a while.

Jeffrey hasn't bothered me completely before now because I think he has a modicum of talent even if his clothes are not at all what I like, but winning and still whining? So not a winning combination. He's definitely not as good as he thinks he is.

I think they kept him last time around namely for the conflict with Angela that was bound to ensue after the Family Edition. I don't believe they kept him so much for his designs but rather for the drama that could possibly happen from him staying. And I hate that he whined after everything. You won. Get over yourself and be happy for once.

& I just took a look at your icons (I stole a few, by the way) and yes, Alias was there. 'Justice' seems nice, and I was surprised they showed how the crime really happened at the end of the episode. It's a serialized drama on FOX, so I can stand to watch it without the pain of cancellation looming over its head. That's why I've decided to stay away from new unestablished shows with season long arcs on that network. It's best, really.

Oh no, not FOX! I was just ranting about them in my reply to the comment below yours. But, as you say, best to stick to the serialized dramas when it comes to that network. I also liked the reenactment of the crime and I can't wait to see the ones where the client isn't as innocent. I was almost thinking we'd see that here because it looked rather sinister to start with. I was sure that it would turn out that she had hit her head, but that he'd come out and seen her unconscious and pushed her into the pool so she'd drown.

I wish I had a SpyParent icon, they're really my favorite part about the show. And they're so pretty!

Jeffrey's bitchy whining about how he should have been entitled to a lot more wins grates like nothing else. He's definitely not all that good, at least not if you consider what the show is. It's high fashion, basically, and Jeffrey makes rock 'n' roll costumes. He just doesn't have that indefineable something that can transform him into a PR winner.
