SMeyer - just, why?

Aug 06, 2008 08:15

This is by no means a review - even if I did have the time it's not worth the effort. I guess this is my reaction post after about 4 days of stewing over it all. But I keep answering my flist with comments on their posts and I just feel like I should get it out there you know? *sigh* Anyway, it's all behind the cut although at this point anything ( Read more... )

eclipse, new moon, edward cullen!!!, breaking dawn, fandom gunk, twilight

Oh Cindy....

I know the direction she took this story was one of just complete bizarroland. I liken it to L. Ron Hubbard and Orson Scott Card mixed together.

The whole pregnancy was a stupid plot device to get us to any kind of plot. Edward was just horrible in this story and I found myself really liking Jacob for his book, his hatred of Rose. (you have to admit the blonde jokes were kinda funny).

But Edward. He was a shell of himself in Jacob's book. But I suspect that's what she wanted. He's so wrapped around Bella that he can't fathom what is happening.

Maybe you just need a bit more. Or Midnight Sun? :)

I will read Midnight Sun when it comes out. But other than that - I'm done. I was getting there in the first place. The movie holds nothing for me (although I will admit to at picturing Pattinson as Edward during this book. Bella still stays a bit faceless for me. And honestly I can't see K Stewart playing this BD Bella at all) and I haven't been feeling like I needed to see it for a while. Now I probably won't. I will not get the 'guide' thingy either. But yes, Midnight Sun will be gotten and enjoyed. I already know that plot.

Funny, I can picture Bella but NOT Edward. I know what Edward is supposed to look like physically, copper hair, long, lean, boyish. But I can't really grasp his face. It's definitely not Rob Pattinson.

Bella I find curvier than Kristen Stewart, a bit more rounded.

He isn't my perfect Edward, I'm not really sure someone could be - and I don't love him for the role - but I just found myself picturing him. If this book had even HALF as much Edward as it should have that might have been more of a conflict.

I agree about Bella. Stewart is too thin, too serious looking.

The movie has never really excited me and as time goes on and the influx of the fandoms obsession with it festered it has just gotten fallen farther down on my radar.

I just wrote up my final review too. I totally understand the need to just PURGE it from our minds. I am like you - Eclipse is the end of the story and our favorite characters - both mine and yours even though they are different - deserve so much more after Eclipse.

Your review was awesome. I couldn't agree with every point you made more. Yes, the characters were very much the victims here. Everything that they have gone threw in the past 3 books was just completely for nothing it seems.

Yep, I need to purge myself and soon. I'm starting to cross my threshold from irritated into a rage territory now.

I added you awhile ago when looking for people that had more similar interests...and you had the black dagger brotherhood listed as an interest, Twilight was just an added bonus ( ... )

Well thanks for the add back! It's always nice to meet new people and in the last month I've made a real effort to find new faces to add to the friends list, I really needed to diversify.

Aren't all fandoms a bit batshit in some way, shape or form!?! I've heard that the Twilight fandom is particularly batshit but then I think it's the cool thing to hate on right now so I've pretty much taken that with a grain of salt. I've just found that what I find really interesting is the people who enjoy things (or not in this instance ;) )and then discuss them in their LJ. I am like you that I completely enjoy debating and reading other people's views on something, it can give me a different perspective and that's just cool. The thing about fandom, for me, is that when I'm totally neck deep in it...it's not that I'm being so much as swayed by the crowd but the hive mind totally starts to take effect. I often have to take a mental step back and find out what I really feel about something because it's just so easy to get caught up ( ... )

Your very welcome and I am happy I did. I didn't have a whole lot of time but I did just check out your lj a bit and we are about the same age and stuff - so it all works out.

Yes - fandom is batshit as a general rule. But some much more than others. Some are very nice and friendly and just lovely places, some are pretty enjoyable in smaller doses, adn then some should be avoided at absolutely all costs. I have only ever been in one fandom 'neck deep' and it almost killed my fangirl spirit. Lessons were learned and now I find that this lj way of life works best for me. I can talk about anything or nothing and if someone has something to add or comment, they can. Same with me ( ... )

I've had the book since Saturday and I'm only on page 272. I usually fly through her books but, I hate this one. I really, really hate it. I can barely make myself read it.

I read an interview where Stephenie said she's really thin-skinned and hasn't looked at the internet fan reaction to BD yet. LOOK! And learn what not to do. Her characters are FUBAR.

I would LOVE to read her reaction to the fans reaction. I would literally pay big pay-per-view bucks to see her cry into her money purse.

Even with all of my yammering here, I can honestly say I'm still a bit in shock that this was really it. I was like - 'No... really...' *shakes head* I honestly feel a bit sorry for the fangirls out there who are like OMG!TWILIGHTISMYLIFE! (well, not really, but you know) and I definitely feel bad for those of us who have defended and recommended the series to others. I kinda feel like a fool a bit ( ... )

I read a chapter-by-chapter breakdown, and I was thoroughly appalled and disgusted. I can't even bring myself to read it now. The baby, the imprinting, and just Jacob in general...this book sucked. :(
