Once again we have been tracking the greatest number of simultaneously seen male cardinals in our yard. Not a great season thus far with a mere four. It has been a warm and relatively snowfree winter thus far and it does seem that the colder and whiter it is, the more cardinals we get.

This last Saturday my beloved and I went walking in Kensington Metropark. Among the footpaths there is one called the Chickadee Trail, where the wee birds will feed from your hand. They have been in residence for a few weeks and I keep forgetting to mention it. After all these years a pair of tree swallows have moved into one of the 'bluebird' houses.

A female yellow warbler and a pair of black-and-white warblers were darting about on the big maple near the house too quickly for pictures. I learned this from Making Light and it reminded me of the book of hers that I will never read. Not that it is a bad book although I suspect she would have regarded it as a minor, early work. Nor do I find it at all objectionable. I just can't.

The snow is nearly all gone. The daffs and croci are putting up green shoots. The junco seem to have returned north. But the happiest signs are hearing the spring peepers and seeing catkins on the pussywillow we planted last year.

Took a few shots today of the living room restored. We will move the books in gradually.

We have a living room back. All ten of the bookcases are face-framed, touched-up, and vertical even if they are not quite ready for glamour shots yet. We still need to push them into final position and fiddle with levelers in the next day or so. And there is some more trim work we want to do longer term.
