"You okay, kiddo?" DG asked, noticing Wyatt's distracted mood. Wyatt blinked and looked up to her mother.

"I'm stuck on a school thing," Wyatt shrugged.

"Can I help?" DG asked with a smile. Wyatt looked up and shrugged.

"I need a skill to show off," she forced out with a smile. "And I know what they're expecting, but-" Wyatt huffed quickly.

DG nodded and pulled her daughter close. "I could stand in the hall. You wave your hand and I'll work some mojo. 'Pay no attention to the queen behind the door' and all that."

Wyatt didn't have the magic of the Gale line because she wasn't a Gale. But, because she was the daughter of the Queen of the Outer Zone, people assumed she had the magic.

"You can whistle," DG offered a moment later.

"Everyone can whistle, Mom," Wyatt sighed.

"I can't." Wyatt blinked. "Look, there's gotta be something you can do that sets you apart," DG suggested. Wyatt looked toward the fireplace and frowned. DG noticed her daughter's head tilt slightly, but didn’t think anything of it.

"Well, there is one thing... but I'm not about to share it with the class," Wyatt finally stated. "Okay... please don't freak out, Mom..." Wyatt looked to the fireplace again and sighed. "I can see dead people."

DG practically snorted and a hand moved to her side. Wiping a stray tear, DG caught her breath and looked at Wyatt, who wasn't laughing. "You have no idea why that's funny," DG realized. Frowning, DG dropped her hands and reared back.

"What?"
