Wednesday a vet will be coming here to help Shelby cross The Rainbow Bridge.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer back in November.  However, we don't feel it is the cancer that took her, but the loss of our beloved Jack back in May.  She was never quite the same after he left...

The title is in quotation marks because it is a label.  It is a label that in my opinion shows your ignorance as much as any racial/ethnic/religious/sexual-orientation slur.  There is NO such thing as an "unadoptable" domesticated animal.

 Shelby was at least 8-years old when we adopted her.  She had spent her former life as a "breeder" in a puppy mill.  EVERY time a dog/cat goes into "heat" it increases their risk of future breast cancer.  EIGHT (or more) years...
We've had her 5.5 years...

I've never even heard of this chain, so I don't know what states they are in.  However, I just received an email from the Humane Society regarding Petland's involvement in puppy mills.  Long time readers understand my hatred and loathing of the mills and my up close and personal experience with their horrors through Shelby.

Shelby, the Sheltie in my icon, was rescued from a puppy mill.  She was "a breeder" because she is missing an eye and thus unfit to sell.  Puppy mill breeders are not given proper nutrition, even when pregnant, and thus their teeth suffer because the babies suck what little vitamins they get.  Shelby was originally guessed at about 11.  After two ( Read more... )
