20 April: At sunrise I’m near a historic cemetery that belonged to Ogilby, a town that no longer exists. Some of the graves are far too small. I’ve never liked seeing children’s graves.

07 April: I head out on a mini snarfari this morning. I learn several things. First, one should always, always, always bring a hat. It is only 10 by the time I finish and I am sweating buckets.

02 April: I work on the redesign all day, working on how it looks, maps, and books. I’m quite pleased with the result but there’s something missing’ it still looks amateurish to me. I really struggle with maps not working until I finally figure out that one program that I needed to call wasn’t being called, and bob’s yer uncle.

31 March: Today is Easter Sunday. I go outside and inhale my chocolate egg, a gift from my parents. There was a time when I’d receive six or seven such eggs at Easter, but these days one is perfect. I love Cadbury’s chocolate and probably always will.

30 November: My sore throat has faded and the real cold is hatching. With a scratchy throat and maybe 60 percent human battery power I go ahead and get the pass for our third year staying in LTVAs. I talk to Netta and Jim, the hosts, and learn that Corrine, the old host, is here, this time as a guest. Cool! I didn’t think I’d ever see her again.

29 November: My sore throat is worse, like a swelling in my throat. It’s hard to swallow. I know for sure that a cold is coming but so far I’m feeling reasonable, other than the pain. Before we leave, though, I’m attracted to this amusing setup, which turns out to be the location of a USGS benchmark. Cool!

27 November: I get an excessively early start this morning when a guy bangs on the door, looking for someone who’s supposedly agreed to bring him some gas.
