Our friends are graciously letting us use their family summer house for our small (12-15) people reception. I was wondering what would be a good thank you gift for them. For what it's worth, they are also, obviously, invited to the wedding. I was thinking of taking them out to a nice dinner sometime beforehand.

I will be getting married in late September, and I'm at a loss at how to plan our reception/celebration. (It will probably be at a small rented place or my parents house & backyard.) If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

How long was your reception?

I want our reception to be at least 4 hours long, but now I'm doubting myself if that is long enough. Every single wedding package I have looked at only offers receptions at 3 hours, with additional hours being available as add ons.

I'm just looking for some opinions. We'll do pre-game photos. The ceremony will be around 11 AM. For those of you who named your tables instead of numbered them, did you provide a map to show people where their tables were? I'm debating whether I need one, 'cause it's going to be a fairly small wedding, only 10ish tables. If you did one, can you show me yours, so I can get some ideas for how I might do one and make it not look bad?

The contract from our (hopefully) venue says the reception would be 6-11 p.m. (cocktails at 6, dinner at 7), which sounded alright to me -- ceremony at 5, then. But now, I'm hearing concerns from my fiancé's family that that might be too late for their grandmother and might not match up with the flower girl and ring bearer's eating schedules. I recently attended a wedding were the DJ wasn't very good and the guests just didn't seem to be enjoying themselves. Many people cut out early.
