Separate Reception

I will be getting married in late September, and I'm at a loss at how to plan our reception/celebration. (It will probably be at a small rented place or my parents house & backyard.) If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

1. Our wedding will be in Hawaii (only my immediate family in attendance), and our reception will be in our home city (just under 50 friends and family). How do I handle the lapse of time and lack of ceremony? I want to have a table with a few of our wedding pictures for people to see. Obviously no wedding dress, but should I wear something white/frilly/formal, or unrelated? Should we still make a registry, or is that in bad taste?

2. My fiance and I are both non-dancers, so aside from music playing, there wont be any formal dancing or anything. All I can think of for the reception, is: appetizers, greeting/mingling, cocktails, dinner, toast/thanks, cake. I'm worried people will be bored.

Thanks! :)
