So I went to the inaugural Saint Louis Chess Club Thanksgiving Open last weekend. That might seem an odd place to hit given there is always a big tournament in LA then, but the St. Louis club is probably the nicest operation that I've ever seen. I love how he tries to get in its head playing pawn to a6.5, covering the b5 square while retaining control of the b6 square. That would be useful in many Sicilian lines.

So, I've played two chess tournaments in the last week, six games Monday and four games Saturday. In the home laboratory, I had been experimenting with a new(for me) opening that snatches a pawn on move six and then tries to hold on. This week I got two opportunities to roll it out:

Technically, Morphy was the best chess player never to be World Champion because quite simply he was the best chess player ever, and there wasn't an official championship declared until just after his death.
