I listened to the Word Balloon podcast's interview with Brian Azzarello on the upcoming "First Wave" mini series. I have to admit I wasn't terribly impressed with Azzarrello. Since stargateguy mentioned finding the Shadow/Doc Savage reprints at his local Half Price Books (a chain we don't have here sadly), other information has cropped up on my pulp mailing lists. Alex Ross' follow-up to the paen to the Silver Age Justice will be SuperPowers for Dynamite Entertainment. He's treading on similar ground as AC Comics and Alan Moore's Terra Obscura, reimagining older public domain superheroes.
