Two years in a row at the end of November I presented brief reports about ongoing process of Žalgiris arena construction in Kaunas. The arena which is for a while the biggest and most modern arena in a region. Today I am finishing this tradition: arena is finished and functions. One more industrial object is under demolition here  in Kaunas. This time is the factory which ones belonged to the "Drobe" textile industrial union (in fact it was historic "Lima" textile factory). This factory was one of the least aggressive examples of industrial architecture of 1970s:

If their would be some prize for the biggest architectural mockery the obvious candidate in Kaunas in 2011 would be this hotel. Proudly called "City hotel" it has 2 stars rating. It's look and value I will leave without comments ...

I am continously observing the ongoing process of insulation of older buildings here. Thing is very good and I am sure that will have long term effects. But some insulations are at least interesting. E.g. last week the nsulation of several walls in the old town Kaunas started:

Next week in Kaunas will be held Hansa days - annual meeting of delegations from municipalities of about 200 towns that in one or other sense were related with medieval merchant union and festivities related with this event. Garliava is southern suburb of Kaunas. This township officially has the status of village despite the fact that Garliava with it's 15 thousand residents is bigger than many district centers in this country. Modern technologies sometimes has some indirect and interesting impact. In the center of Kaunas for some time goes construction at the place were once most famous soviet period shopping center "Merkurijus" stood. Some unknown group installed web-camera to control the construction :)
