Next week in Kaunas will be held Hansa days - annual meeting of delegations from municipalities of about 200 towns that in one or other sense were related with medieval merchant union and festivities related with this event. Here local authorities tried to finish one of the stages of the Kaunas castle partial reconstruction. This stage I want to call "visual games":
The partial reconstruction of Kaunas castle becomes more and more exotic project. In this stage of works architects tried to restore and to visually emphasize the former place of the castle. To realize this they needed to restore part of the defensive row and to change completely
the lat 15ndscape which became common for the last 150 years.
So about 1-1.5 months ago area around looked liked this:
But today I found another view.
I don't know how historic this is but the wooden bridge over defensive wall was built:
But the biggest issue was the emphasizing of the former castle area - relief contours now agree with the perimeter of the old castle :
But the pedestrian pavement now goes entirely different way - significantly closer to the river:
From this pavement castle looks like on the small hill:
Nearby I found for the first the monument to Jonas Sungaila (built in 2010 to commemorate 600th hundred anniversary of Grunwald) - commander of this castle flag (regiment in modern terms :)) in Grunwald battle:
And modern characters :)) I met and photographed modern "commanders" - mayor R. Mikaitis (third from the right) and first vice-mayor K. Krikščiūnas (second from the right). despite that both are in the duty only for a few weeks it seems that those guys like PR and we will hear about their "heroic campaigns" in the coming years ...
