There is a zombie apocalypse going on downstairs...

That is 5 teenage boys, an xbox, loads of pizza and snacks, and Call of Duty (which is called COD by aficionados. I love that.) They are killin' zombies and suckin' soda.

And birthdays in this house mean cake. Brain cake.

My younger son is 10 years old. He had a Pokemon birthday sleepover. I made Munchlax and Snorlax cupcakes. Really, my residual creativity seems to be working itself out in cake. Even though I get my ideas from Google Images. :) This was my first experiment with marshmallow fondant; easy to make and way too sweet but fun to shape. Mini-marshmallows ( Read more... )

The one good thing about a bout of insomnia is that you feel like a million bucks after you do get some sleep. Anyone who doubts how sleep affects the entire human body should be woken every hour for several nights in a row, then let sleep. Really, it's amazing ( Read more... )

On the other hand, maybe I'd better just get on the road. I managed to piss away the morning putting away dishes, putting away the CSA stuff, re-arranging the fridge, washing kale (mmm...kale), planning some meals, making a grocery list, etc.

The tree is up, but the boxes remain. I'll try to haul them downstairs tonight and get them tucked back into their hole under the stairs later in the week. Birthday party coming up for #2, but it's pretty much all set. Except for wrapping the presents. And making bowling ball cupcakes. *sigh*

I blew off work, both house and paying, this weekend in order to:

take my husband out to dinner (candelight, waterfront, live jazz-type dinner)
go hiking at Cunningham Falls State Park
watch maple syrup being made
buy maple syrup (yum)

Today is the birthday  party. Four hours in a crowded room filled with teenagers and near-teenagers blasting each other on large monitors...I'm told they wear headphones. *gulp* Also #2 has to come with us since he can't stay home alone. (Can't he? whispers my dark angel. No, replies the light.)
