I've got a problem that keeps coming up when I'm baking. It doesn't matter if I follow recipies religiously or in my own invented stuff, I'll often get my baked goods with a clear aftertaste of baking soda.

I cobbled together this cardamom horchata de arroz recipe yesterday, based on a variety of recipes I found hither and yon; it came out okay, but I think it needs refining (somewhat literally), and would really appreciate any suggestions.

My oven broke!

I now have leftover cupcake batter (soda + cake mix). Can I do anything with this? Or is it a lost cause and I can resume my soda-cupcake experiment when my oven gets fixed?

Wouldn't you know that I didn't realize I'd run out of wheat gluten until after I food-processed the chickpeas and the oil. I put the mixture in the fridge. Can I use it a day later or do you think I should start from scratch?

Also, is it possible to make a double batch and freeze some? I wonder how well they'd reheat. Thoughts?

So I tried making some chocolate chip cookies that vega posted a while ago (from the memories). They came out....odd. Like they puffed up and looked really nice, but then when we went to eat them we found out that they were just a shell....( Pictures and recipe under cut )
