I have been experimenting with hot cereal. This morning’s breakfast is going in my cookbook.

1/2 cup red quinoa
1/4 cup soy milk (or almond milk)
1/8 cup of chopped pecans
1/8 cup of raisins
2 Tbs chia seeds
2 Tbs hemp hearts
1 Tbs butter

Today I've learned a new word "nutritionism."  I listened to a lecture by Michael Pollan (he's the fellow that wrote On Defense of Food and The Omnivore's Dilliema).  It's interesting to note how Western culture's relationship with food has changed over time.  He has some choice things to say about how nutrition becomes like a religion.  Nutrients ( Read more... )

The blender came and, at 12:30 in the afternoon, I just couldn't justify a margarita.  I made a strawberry, yogurt smoothie instead.  I love the blender and I think it might come with me to California next week.

The other big splurge was a trailer.  My car is getting it's hitch installed today, but the trailer is in the yard and ready to be packed ( Read more... )

Last week, myself and four friends did the Dr. Schulze's 5-day detox. I am so happy to be done with garlic and orange juice for breakfast! On this cleanse diet, we juiced and ate a lot of raw, vegan foods. I made an almond paste, coconut butter drop cookie that was pretty tasty. I also bought a book on raw foods (12 Steps to Raw Food).
