We had a couple days of very chilly weather, with nighttime temps below freezing. That's not unusual for March, but after weeks of warm weather, I was afraid for the flowers that are now blooming, and for two little rose bushes I just planted. A couple of our hyacinths are blooming, and several more have buds on them. The crocuses are in full bloom as are the wild violets in the front yard. The forsythia is just about to bloom. It's been an unusually warm March, after an unusually mild winter season. I hope this doesn't mean we're in for a super hot summer season ( Read more... )

I saw my first robin yesterday. I heard it singing and looked up to see it perched on a branch above me.

The violets are blooming on our front lawn, the crocuses are in full bloom, some hyacinths have opened and others are just showing the tips of green leaves emerging from the soil. Yesterday I cleared out matted fall leaves from a small area and planted sweet pea seeds there. I know it's too early for other seeds and fragile plants, but the sweet ( Read more... )
