Okay, so Mom and I have had a long, on-going battle over driving. We always have. After my inisal "NO! Man was not ment to drive or we'd be born with wheels!!" panic at driving lessons, and I started to settle into the idea, Mom and I have fought over speed, distance between cars, length of time spent stopped at a stop sign, amount of time between our car and on-comeing traffic when makeing a turn or what not. Basicly, we drive as difrently as two people can when one of them actualy tought the other to drive.
Mom is always complaining about my speed, so of course when I finaly did get a speeding ticket (five over the limit...at 3am...trying to get the hell out of Yelm! Fucking right, I was speeding, it was Yelm! Show me one person who dosen't wanna speed the hell outta Yelm as fast as they possibly can?) I talked to Dad about it. I don't even remember now (it was about two years ago) if I told mom at all. Dad told me about Defuring, which here in Wash, once every seven years you can defure one ticket for a moving violation (like speeding) and one parking voliation, and pay extra at the time and as long as you don't get another ticket for seven years, it'll never go on your record, and your insurance will never be told.
My first ticket, of course I didn't wanna tell the one person who consatly harps on me about my driving. So imagine my amusement when Dad show'd me yesterday's mail and what came in it.
It would seem that Mom managed to not pay the toll on Washingtons one and only active Toll bridge in the entire state. ::snickers:: Oh God, I couldn't stop laughing. Apprently last week, when Mom drove up to catch the Port Angeles ferry up to Victoria, BC, Mom got into the wrong lane, and didn't pay the toll, and since it was dark and no cops came after her, she thought she got away with it.
Never mind the fact that it was coverd on the news every day for months that the new bridge which uses Tolls to pay for it is covered with police cameras that work even in the dark, and that the bridge gets more money off tickets from toll jumpers, then they do off the tolls themselves. ::snickering:: Also, there are two bridges, one with a toll one without right next to eachother and both clearly marked so there really is no excuse for hitting the wrong bridge and still not paying.
Instead of a three doller toll, she gets a fifty doller ticket. ::hand over eyes laughing::
The only downside is that the car is in Dad's name, not mom's, so the ticket was actualy sent to him, not Mom. And Dad just had a ticket difured about seven months ago. So now not only is he paying mom's toll jumping ticket, but he's out the price of his old ticket, and the cost of defuring it. :;sighs:: ::shakes head:: Dad was all ready to fight it, but then mom came home, and he just gave up and payed it. ::eyeroll:: ::laughs:: ::shakes head::
Up to that point, it was absolutly hilariuos. I'm still gunna mock Mom over it, of course. As of now, she has more tickets on her record then I do, and has been in more accidents (not her fault, but...), to be fair, she's also been driving longer, but adveraged out to tickets/accidents/ect per year, I still come out way ahead at this point.
I thought the timeing with my makeing my two newest icons was oddly approprate. I made both the one I'm useing now (
SMRT Cat) and also my
Red Neck Is Showing icons about an hour or two before I saw the ticket. The timeing on this amuses me. The curent icon, because it just fits, but the other one, because I get my Red Neck Roots from Mom's side of the family. Neither of them came out great, but considering the crap program I have on hand, I think they came out about as well as they possibly could. ::pets icons::
On less amusing news: Krista and Sean. So far, baby is fine, thank god. Bad news...Sean got laied off. ::sighs:: Within a day or so of hearing the baby's heart beat, Sean got the pink slip. Job ends within the next few weeks. Hopefuly he'll have an easer time getting a job this time around, as now he has actual job expeirence on his record. When he tried to get a job before fianly getting this one, his last real job was a six month stint working on the programing for the international space station...back in the mid to late 90's. And before that? Some kind of summer job in high school. It took him twelve years to finish his masters. ::eyeroll He's one of those people who thinks himself above most jobs because of his family background (very well off family, though just short of being raised actualy rich) and his edjucation. He went to Harvy Mudd collage, same as Krista, one of the best math/science schools anywhere in the world, less famous then MIT, but higher grade point adverages and more speciaised criculum. MIT is where everyone who thinks themselves smart and good at math think they should go. Harvy Mudd is where the people who actauly are smart and will end up going into the most advanced math/science devisions in the world go. (And yah, little bit of pride, there. ::LOL:: Krista really is that smart, she was actualy written up in the papers because of some of her test scores at Harvy Mudd, third highest in the country that year)
So...one bit of really funny news, and one bit of "keeping you guys in the loop" news. I'll keep ya updated on the Sean Job front. Not much else going on right now. Just glad to be back home. Managed to get outta Danika's with only two Loki Bites, and only one that broke the skin, which is pretty good.
