Okay, sorry, this kind of dovetailed off your prompt.citiesfallingMay 7 2011, 19:20:39 UTC
This is his chance, maybe the last one. Here, in the dark of night, watching Dean sleep like he has always done, Castiel understands that if he can't get through to him, he might never get another shot

Cas watches Dean sleep, like he has many times before, but this time feels different. For one thing, he feels even less welcome because of the attempted angel sigils used in hopes of warding him off

Oh yay! It's been so long since I've written Dean/Cas fic that I've posted, even longer since I've written canon (as much as is possible) Dean/Cas, and even LONGER since I've done comment fic, so I was a bit nervous.
I'm so glad you liked it, especially since you're kind of the queen of comment fic :P
A throwaway line about Ruby from Dean has Sam realising he should understand better than anyone what Cas is going through. They meet up and hug it out.
Dean has a quiet little breakdown over Cas' betrayal (sitting by himself, trying not to cry, that sort of thing). Sam finds him. Epicly poignant brotherly hug, with Sam looking after Dean, because he's done the whole 'betrayal by someone you've trusted/fucked/loved (any combo)' thing.
“… you’re like a brother to me, so if I’m asking you not to do something, you gotta trust me, man.”
“Or what?”
“Well, I’ll have to do what I have to do to stop you.”
“You can’t Dean, you’re just a man. I’m an angel.”
“I don’t know, I’ve taken some pretty big fish.”
“Sorry Dean”
“Well, I’m sorry too, then.”Dean stood motionless after the sound of Castiel’s wings faded away. He wished with all his heart that Cas hadn’t gone looking in the worst of places for help. There were too many betrayals, too many shocks for him to take in. He was on a rollercoaster that just wouldn’t quit. First Sam lied to him about Ruby, and everything the bitch had snared him up in, and now history was repeating itself with Cas and Crowley. He scrubbed a hand over his face and hung his head. He didn’t know how much more he could take

This was *exactly* what I wanted. I'm tearing up as I write, because you got it all so perfectly. Sam was amazing and Dean. Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean.... ohhhh my heart, it breaks. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
