I added some new toys and perches to her cage recently. Two of the perches are short perches that only needs to connect to one pair of vertical bars on one side of the cage (most perches go end-to-end in a cage). On Wednesday night, I acquired youth batting gloves (yes, my hands are that small) on clearance at Target. That has really helped with feeding Pepe her medicine. She still wriggles, and it's still a big mess, but the process goes a lot quicker, and while her beak does poke through every now and then, she can't get enough through to actually do me ( Read more... )

Pepe and I visited the vet tonight. She continues to improve. The vet thinks that some of the liver damage is permanent, but that she should live out a functional lifespan, as long as I keep taking good care of her ( Read more... )

Since I am still using a heat lamp, and since Pepe needs to stay in the cage and rest until she sees the vet this weekend for a follow-up visit, it's hard to get a good picture of her. Until she's off the heat lamp and allowed to wander outside the cage, this will have to do:

The conference was going well. The food was excellent. OK, so I was feeling some allergies, but the first day was tolerable. The next day was unpleasant, but still tolerable. Pepe is home. She looks good, and she's much less cranky than I expected. It looks like things worked out as the vet and I planned, and she does see me as her rescuer. She went straight for her food when I put her food cup back in the cage, so her appetite is healthy. I bought a heat lamp for her at the vet, and she's basking in the light and ( Read more... )
