I added some new toys and perches to her cage recently. Two of the perches are short perches that only needs to connect to one pair of vertical bars on one side of the cage (most perches go end-to-end in a cage). I put one of the short perches on the inside of the cage door. If she is on that perch, and I open the door quickly, I can place my finger so that it is the next step for her to take, and voila, I have her out of the cage without fighting or fuss. We just spent a few minutes with her climbing all over me. She pooped on my shirt, as I expected, but otherwise, she seemed quite happy with the experience, especially since I added a millet sprig treat as a reward.
This new technique shows promise. Eventually, she'll understand that I'm a trustworthy friend and caregiver.
Now I go thud.
