Ignorance truly is bliss.

When I was growing up, I thought it was normal for your arms and legs to turn red when you climbed oak trees.  I figured it was just the bark of the tree scratching my skin up.  I thought cat scratches always turned into red welts for a week at a time.  I assumed I was just sickly because I felt so awful all the time.

• omg what if I'm not doing enough and I'm going to lose my job?!
• omg what if I actually -asked- my Gas Station Buddy if he was single or not and he was horrified and disgusted that would be humiliating!

What is normal?  The dictionary tells us it's a standard, or conforming thereto.  Whose standard do you choose?  We have Average Joe On The Street.  He grew up in a normal family, went to school, maybe got an associate's degree and moved on to some job that he does because it makes him money and he pursues his hobbies on the weekend.  He has a wife ( Read more... )
