Our Sunday School class is just finishing up a study of Pilgrim's Progress -- we will probably finish it next week -- and so we filled out a survey listing some other books that were options for the next to study.  The winner was The Screwtape Letters, which makes me happy because it's a fantastic book and it's been a long time since I read through ( Read more... )

Exciting things today:

1) I slept better last night.  Still not fantastic but getting there.  My mother-in-law read somewhere that if your eat between 10-20 cherries sometime in the evening before you go to bed, it will help you sleep better.  She, Lucas' grandmother and I all have trouble sleeping, so we've all tried it with fresh cherries from my ( Read more... )

How I spent my second-to-last day at the library:

* making origami cranes
* eating delicious food grilled by scottwoods  and also made by other awesome coworkers
* singing along to the radio in the back room
* hugging people
* crying

So, all in all, good day.

I have a volunteen, Syl, who has been working in the Homework Help Center with me basically all year.  She's about fourteen, was also a volunteen for Summer Reading Club the summer before that, and she and her mom order a ton of books all the time, so we know her pretty well.  I've been able to get to know her even better through the HHC, and guys ( Read more... )

Just stumbled on this interesting article about The Creative Person's Hierarchy of Needs.  I like to think I'm a somewhat creative person, so I read it with interest.  It lists ten things that "creative people" - whatever your creative outlet is - need.  I think it's a solid list, with some interesting insight.  It also made me sad, because I'm ( Read more... )

So I was reading this article on CNN and I was actually starting to feel bad for the lady a little bit.  Until I read further and saw "She said she has had offers."  And this: "She rejected a marketing assistant position paying about California's $8-an-hour minimum wage, because the pay was too low."
