There was a small package from Chewy.com in my mailbox this evening. I couldn't recall ordering anything. When I opened the packet, I found inside a card and a small gift wrapped in orange tissue - a portrait of Walter!

Dear Diary,

Today I was a very good boy. When the neighbor dogs came out of their house and started barking at me, I sat real close to my person and barely even reacted. And later, when we walked by an enormous Malamute who wanted to rip into me, I sat at her feet and let that dog wuff and bark all she wanted at me. I only barked back once.

Actually, it wasn't terrible. It started out, though, with an email from a former client - a bipolar gentleman who is extremely smart but his brain, it's broken - who used to travel between here and Colorado, always applying in each State until I finally said, "Look man, pick one place and stick the landing." Took Walter for his annual vaccinations yesterday. He had a rough go of it, was very sensitive for the remainder of the day to the point I got a little toothy reaction when I touched him at the injection spot accidentally. Poor thing. It always bothered me, seeing unleashed dogs in parks with big "dogs must be on leash" signs posted very visibly. Now that I have a dog-reactive dog? HULK SMASH.

Took cat food (raw chicken) out of fridge to bring to room temp prior to taking dog for walk. Came back, cats had knocked one of the jars off the counter, the lid had loosened and yep - dinner already eaten ( Read more... )
