WOO HOO! Well... almost. I have the analysis of one remaining manuscript to type up, but I refuse to do it until Tuesday after I'm able to download the photos of the fragment. Well, I think I managed to decipher the ligatures that have been driving me crazy for the past few days. Geeze louise! Some of the pages of these manuscripts are so damaged it's really difficult to read them at all. Then there are little holes masqurading as notes, bleed through from the other side, the ligatures I can't figure out, and the ever ubiquitous fear of scribal error... sigh. So I'm finally to the stage of transcribing... something I probably need a month to do cause I'm not that good at it, and I've never transcribed medieval notations before. F**king ligatures. Ligatures are multiple notes "stuck" together in different shapes. Most are squares or elongated rhombi, and the lines in front or in the middle mean different ( Read more... )

I just sent off chapter one of my thesis to my committee! woo hoo! that's such a huge relief! I can't believe I'm halfway done! Well, not halfway, but close. Now I just have to analyze, transcribe, and translate aprox. 60 medieval songs and write a conclusion in 6 days... I can do that, right?
