We relaxed in the morning, not doing much besides a trip to the breakfast room. We also looked up activities for the day, and we settled on the Midway Museum: an aircraft carrier that served from 1945 to about 1995, converted into a museum.

Today "T" returned to school. The ice was a bother. I realized that I could have given a ride to the neighbor girl who was also scheduled to return to school today. I knocked on their door to offer belatedly, but they decided she could take the day off.

This noon "J" and I went to the airport to pick up our friend "D", who divides time between Oahu, Seattle, and travel.

This morning, we woke up at the York cottage, and had our breakfast there.
We took a nice walk in the cold morning.
Later, we visited the in-laws.
For an early dinner, "J" and I went to a dive restaurant. The place had good fish and chips, and good brews.

We started the morning with breakfast. After cleaning up, we packed up our entire camp. Something that worked better than on previous camping expeditions was that we had an actual laundry basket for dirty clothes, so we weren't just mixing them in with clean clothes that we hadn't ended up wearing.

As I wrote yesterday, "J" and I are up in the Cascades on a camping and hiking trip. There's no cell service, so again I wrote my journal (notes, actually) on paper.
One reason for the trip is that this is J's birthday, and camping is a special treat for her.

At home, a shower is just part of a routine day. But while camping, a shower is luxury and joy. Shower tokens cost $1 for two; each token is good for three minutes of hot water. I discovered that I can take a shower a lot faster when I'm trying to make sure that I don't run out of tokens, because it's not fun when the hot water goes cold.

This morning "J" and I and "T" went on a hike at a place called Franklin Falls. The drive up was easy, we found parking in the lot, and the temperature was just right for hiking. The falls were quite impressive, and the freeway far above was built in a way that kept it from intruding on the scenery or natural sounds. The place was full of people, ( Read more... )

• Sweet County, an excellent Australian outback drama.
• Making the Grade, a sweet but forgettable Irish documentary about people studying for piano exams.

Today I made what seemed like some real progress getting CrashPlan working on the server. It went through the synchronizing phase - and stalled.
Frustrated, I went back to working on the taxes.
In the late afternoon, "J" and I and "T" went to a local park to enjoy the nice weather.
