Just taking a small break from working the eyelets, as my hands are not used to the tugging of the silk threads, so my pinky and forefinger on my right hand are kinda sore. I need to take photos of my progress, although sometimes I wonder why, when it is almost done.
For some reason, the thought of running a fabric business has been running through my head.
Now, I love fabric, and I like to support those in the fabric enabling business as much as I can, so why I would want to sell it myself, I don't know. What's running around is just doing it locally, at local ren-faire and SCA events, selling good period fabrics, including linen, wool and the occasional fancy silk or brocade fabrics. Stuff the actors/SCA folk, etc and maybe even the patrons could use. But I know that there is
one great lady in this state who is already providing that great service for us on the Internet, along with other good merchants who provide this service on the 'net, and many people I know in my area like to travel to the LA garment district for their fabric needs, if not use the Internet themselves. Not to mention Joanns and Hancocks... so, knowing this, and having known this for a long while... why do I continue to rumble this thought in my head???
Ok, now that the thought is written down, maybe it will go away. It's not like I have the time to devote to this idea anyway.
Back to the hand sewing, I will be taking progress photos of the hand binding I am doing. Not because it is special, but because I couldn't find it on the net when I did a quickie search for binding fabrics.
Ok, took a look at the one site I thought would have them (the Renaissance Tailor), but while there is a discussion on bias, there isn't a demo on bias binding, or straight binding either. But, there will be a future demo on "Cardweaving Closures of the 'Polish Style' - Period 'frog' closures for Eastern European clothing." Now that looks interesting, although it is the last item on the list right now.
Ah, I wish I could go to Oregon for the
Robin Netherton/Tammie Dupuis workshops! I would love to go, but can't afford the time or the money for it, not to mention it is a bit of a travel. Someday.
Well, back to more eyelets. At least the ones I am doing are every other ones, so I can at least get dressed this weekend. As I have time later, I will sew in the rest. Maybe this way, I can actually finish the hem and the sleeves as well, although the sleeves will be optional at this point, even tho they are pretty much done. I must do hem first, and the rest of the eyelets down the kirtle back, or I will have nothing to wear under my old gown. Well... enough of the mindless chatter...
