Day 04 - Your favorite Doctor
I seriously can't decide. Ever. Because they're different and the production teams and story styles are different, so every time the production team changes, the show changes. You can see this easily in the Tom era where it could go from Gothic horror movie stuff to flippant fluff and WTFery and back again. My absolute favourite Doctors are Two, Three, Four and Five and even the Doctors I don't like in canon become much more interesting when they're written right in fanfic or when they aren't hampered by wanky producers in audio form. And dear god, fanfic Ten is so much better than the canon one and the fanfic one is one of the greatest Doctors if not *the* greatest Doctor I have in my head. I tend to favour the Sixties and Seventies stories over many later ones, but there are huge exceptions. Would I choose Four as the best Doctor because he's got everything and a huge variety of stories and Doctor-companion dynamics? Or Two because Patrick Troughton was probably the best actor we've had in the role? What about the scripts and acting skills mismatches various Doctors had to suffer (the TVM, anyone)? Does shallowness enter into it and should I just froth endlessly about the pwhoaaarrr factor of Five, Eight and Ten and how there should be a special called The Fucktoy Doctors where the Master takes them all into his dungeon and and and and--um, yeah. Really, don't make me choose.
