Just had to share ---   musicbyoscar  had a news article written up about his home-brewing adventures this year.

Texas State fair announced their finalists for the Big Tex choice awards -- this year, fried beer and battered fried Frito Pie made the list.  I'd act surprised, but last year introduced deep fried butter and previous years saw delights like chicken-fried bacon, fried lattes, and fried Coke.
Yep, we really will fry just about anything.

We attended the release party for Shiner summer seasonal last night at  Augies BBQ -- it's the return of the 'Smokehouse'.
This year it's 1000% better than last year.  (Last year's Smokehouse tasted a bit like someone poured a bottle of Liquid Smoke into my glass of beer.  I bought only 1 six pack, and we still have some of it left.  It was too ( Read more... )

I love the various companies that did an April Fool's news article or blog entry.  (I'm fairly certain that my company would never do something like that.)  Big companies like Google, ABC, Kodak and Starbucks had their fun today, but my favorite two gags were Woot.com's text-adventure format (reminds me of many games I played when I was younger) ( Read more... )

Went to Redhook brewery in Woodinville last night.  Tasted their Sunrye (a little light for my tastes, but would be ok for a hot summer day), a  Raspberry Triple (unpleasant with a funky aftertaste... the one sample I wish I hadn't tried), the Longhammer IPA (solid performer) and their cask-conditioned Longhammer IPA (fabulous!!  Better than St. ( Read more... )

Today was highway clean up day with the San Antonio Parrot Head Club.  We had a solid turnout and we collected over 40 bags of garbage on Military Highway, north of 1604.  After the clean up, we went over to Freetail Brewery to enjoy some refreshment.  Oddly enough, we had so many folks turn out for the clean up, we were finished long before ( Read more... )
