Just had to share ---   musicbyoscar  had a news article written up about his home-brewing adventures this year.

Quick post to say that I'm thrilled to busting -- musicbyoscar just won a gold metal for his stout at Lunar Rendezbrew 17, which is a homebrew competition hosted by the Bay Area Mashtronauts.  This year they had 540 entries, so there was some hefty competition.  He never expected to place, much less come in first in a category.  The event itself was loadds of ( Read more... )

We had a fabulous time at this year's Pirate's Ball, and I won 2nd place this year in the costume contest.  (I'll post a photo as soon as someone sends me one -- someone forgot to pack our camera.)   This year's most attendees' costumes were better than last years, so I was pretty excited to get a second place trophy.  Also I got to hear the Boat ( Read more... )

Chilled a bottle of my E.S.B. and drank it this week -- quite tasty.  Shared a sample with the guy who runs our local homebrew shop, and he though it tasted like Old Speckled Hen, so I take that as a solid compliment.

Thanks to the wonderful tutelage of musicbyoscar (who has been home brewing for a year now), I brewed my first beer last night. If all goes well, I should have a drinkable ESB by Christmas.

musicbyoscar  kegged the IPA while I was out of town last week, and it's drinkable now... Yum!   The Imperial stout I mentioned in my last beer post turned out great -- several of our friends are giving it two thumbs up.  (well, okay, more like a thumb and a half -- they're trying not to spill their beer.)   So, for the first time since I bought him that twin- ( Read more... )

The home brew is coming along.  This morning musicbyoscar kegged his imperial stout, and he just finished racking the IPA to a secondary fermenter.  
Before long we'll have the twin-tap kegerator going full steam!

I just got off the phone with musicbyoscar.  For some reason we had a difficult time understanding each other, and our conversation went something like this:

musicbyoscar  has started home brewing.  So far we have had a few minor beer "incidents" but otherwise things are going well.  His first brew (a pale ale) was very tasty -- and even the guys at the local home brewers group were impressed.  He has a stout that's almost ready, and then he'll be starting a batch of IPA for me.  What a fabulous hobby -- he makes ( Read more... )
