Beer and BBQ

We attended the release party for Shiner summer seasonal last night at  Augies BBQ -- it's the return of the 'Smokehouse'.
This year it's 1000% better than last year.  (Last year's Smokehouse tasted a bit like someone poured a bottle of Liquid Smoke into my glass of beer.  I bought only 1 six pack, and we still have some of it left.  It was too smokey to drink and we've only used it to season meat.)
This year the Smokehouse is fabulous.  I had 3 pints of the Smokehouse last night -- and enjoyed them all.  The smokiness was faint and pleasant, and didn't build up after a beer or tow.
So, I'll be sad to see their Spring seasonal (Shiner Fröst) disappear, but that's the way of seasonal offerings.  They also announced that Shiner will be offering an Oktoberfest seasonal this fall.  So about the time the Smokehouse fades out, the Oktoberfest should roll in.
As for my opinion of Augies cuisine -- the sausage and beef were tasty, although the brisket was far too fatty for my preference.  The sides were dreadful and I couldn't eat them  -- the coleslaw contained more mayo than cabbage, and the beans were not tasty.  Their cook could learn a lot about making delicious sides by taking a quick trip to The Shed -- which is still my favorite BBQ place on the planet.
