Melodies Pure and True...

Our neighbours behind us are very much "this is my property line and this is your property line - don't cross!". I'm like that to a certain degree, but I don't pull the branches off the bushes peeking through the fence onto our property from the neighbours beside us. It's more foliage and I'm quite happy to have all the greenery in the neighbourhood. Anyway, I'm outside today tanning when I hear a saw. I look to our apple and mystery trees at the back of our yard and lo and behold neighbours behind us have hired someone to cut the branches off our trees because they were leaning over the fence. What. the. hell. They didn't talk to us about this and instead hacked away at our trees. Now, I'm not crazy angry over this; however, I find their approach to be incredibly disrespectful given the fact that our property (the trees) were in no way negatively impacting their property since the branches only hovered over the back of their property where their garage is and not any actual yard space such as grass. I would have more respect if they said, "Hey, we really don't like the branches hanging over so we're going to cut some of them back." *le sigh*

I went to a karma yoga class this afternoon at Be Yoga. I felt bad because I was the only person who showed up other than the 2 studio instructors. I suspect people either forgot or put it off because the weather today was/is absolutely beautiful. No matter, the class was really wonderful and, obviously, intimate. I got to do some partner yoga poses with one of the instructors and it was a great stretch for both of us. It's a really nice studio and the instructors I met are lovely so if you're in Winnipeg I would recommend you check them out. Oh, and Lululemon at Polo Park brought some Sigg tea traveller mugs as a thank you to the participants so I got a cool mug. Yay!

Oh, before that, I finally went to the St. Norbert farmers' market since I hadn't gone yet (it opened at the beginning of the month). I only left with a few organic zucchinis but that's okay. I would like to get some plants to pot from there at some point. I got a pamphlet from Blue Lagoon Organics (who I bought the zucchinis from) and I think next year I might participate in their produce share program. I have 'til about March or so to think about it. While at the market, some guy who just got his first tattoo last night stopped me to admire mine and then proceeded to go on and on about the meaning behind his and such. I listened politely but... man, I have to think those of us who have been getting tattooed for several years (12 for me) and have visible tattoos really don't care about stories that tattoo newbs have (especially when we don't ask for the stories). I've found some people get offended when I tell them that either some of my tattoos have no meaning (that's not entirely true) or that I don't want to share. Really, it's for me so it's not anyone else's business even if it is in a visible spot.

I'm currently making chocolate coconut milk berries and cherry ice cream with our new ice cream maker. Super yum! I decided to get an ice cream maker because, as much as I love vegan ice cream (especially coconut milk), it is ridiculously expensive. I'm talking $7+ for those small containers (what is it, like a pint or something?). It's far cheaper to DIY it and there's the self-satisfaction of homemade. And the veggie spiralizer/Spirooli also arrived. It is awesome! I made a raw slaw recipe from Sarah Kramer's Vegan A Go-Go, spiralizing an apple, sweet potato, carrot, and beet. Colourful, vibrant, and very fun looking food indeed. I think I'll make zucchini noodles as a raw fettuccine tomorrow.

Oh! I did my first work bike commute of the season yesterday, appropriately enough on Bike to Work Day. It was perfect weather for it. I decided to go down Pembina because the other route I usually go is so heavily under construction. I was pleased to discover it seems to take me less time going down Pembina, though statistically a lot of bicyclist-vehicle accidents happen on Pembina which is a bit unnerving. I'm constantly amazed that my petite body (for those who don't know me IRL, I'm a mere 5'3") can pedal me 30 kms in a day and then top it off with some yoga to wind down. Truly, the human body is an amazing thing and I'm wowed at what mine can do.
