Got my MacBook back, and went through the laborious process of reinstalling everything and restoring what data I had backed up. Out of morbid curiosity, I installed BootCamp as well. I got a nice big 320GB external hard drive yesterday. I was sick of having to reboot to erase temporary files and get my free space back over a gig. I probably would have continued to deal with it, but Dick Smith’s has a special on LaCie “Porsche” drives. I almost got the half-terrabyte, but stopped myself. I didn`t end up going to sleep again. I watched Steve Jobs keynote at the WWDC. Some nifty improvements there. Depending on the price tag on Leopard (when it finally ships), I may consider buying it just for Time Machine.

The system registry.

divaflip's machine has been running without a hitch since I put it together in January. Until last night. Her multi-function unit refused to scan, so we uninstalled the drivers, rebooted... and the System hive in the registry died. I worked for five hours, and could only manage to boot in with the "repair" registry that windows has. ( Read more... )

daedalist.com has been down for the last week. This morning, I send off a support ticket threating to take my business elsewhere, and lo and behold! instant path to rectification. Alright. There is one thing about Windows that I miss. Picasa rocks and is irreplaceable. Even diehard MacOS X fantatics recommend its use over iPhoto. Shame it doesn't look like Google think it's worthwhile porting Picasa to Mac.

Grr.

In the meantime, I'll be doing folder-based management of my photos, rather than let iPhoto at them.
