Line upgrade was supposed to happen today, and what happened? My modem died. I called D-Link, and have secured the possibility of replacement, but I don't know if I still have my proof of purchases, so it'll probably be out of warranty.
With that in mind, I high-tailed it out of home well before I meant to and rushed around to DSE at MacCentre, then Harvey Norman's in Chatswood to investigate a new modem. I've been toying with buying a replacement anyway, given that I may soon be hooked up to a DSL2/2+ DSLAM, and want to move the household to WiFi networking. I finally settled on a Netgear DG834G, which has all the bells and whistles.
The sales guy at HN was pretty cool. Apparently, he had just moved into the apartment block that collapsed over the Lane Cove tunnel. He said that there's an $8million machine under all that concrete, which would be about right, knowing the state government.
Anyway, I was itching all through work to get home and set my new toy up.
Being the good techie, the first thing I did when I got home was to plug the old D-Link in to see if it worked (I had left it unplugged while I was out, in case it was simply overheating). Naturally, it worked.
Never mind. I pulled it out, hooked up the Netgear, and it works like a charm :)
Weee! Downloads at 80+k/s!!
Then I proceeded to set up the WiFi, reconfigure my Airport Express, and it all works like a charm. My mac no longer connects by cabled ethernet :)
Of course, that was a major expenditure I didn't want to have to make so close to Christmas, but shit happens.
