I'll get around to writing about Xmas eventually, but I need to vent.
I put my laptop in for repair on the 13th because it wasn't seeing the internal HD to boot from. I got a diagnosis within 3 working days (ETA for that was 5, so I was pleased), being that the drive was dead (I suspected as much). At that point, I was told that Apple didn't have the part in stock, but seeing as they're common enough, it shouldn't be more than a couple days, so it was possible I'd have it just after Christmas (owing to public holidays and weekends and stuff).
Sure, whatever.
So I called up today in the hope that I could drive over to Chatswood and pick up that technological extension of my self. Vain hope, as it turned out. The part is still out of stock with Apple, but they should get it in by Friday. Which means they might get around to installing it on Monday. They will then run tests on it overnight (!) and get it back to me by... Wednesday because it's New Year.
This means that I will be without a working laptop for nearly a month. When I first called up, I was offered one of the store's hard drives, but at a cost. I'm not sure why they couldn't give me that drive and then claim it back from Apple's shipment once it came in. Probably an accounting thing, but such crap customer service makes me wonder if this service shop is run by the same people at the retail outlet, since those guys are amazingly friendly, happy to go that extra mile for the "just browsing" crowd, and all round great guys.
On top of that, I've discovered that my backup is incomplete. A glance through the drive shows that I am missing my music library, my photos, my e-mail, calendar, and possibly some large torrents. Much of this is replaceable from my (nearly decommissioned) Mac Mini, but not all of it, and much of the recent stuff is not.
Grr.
