I rush out of surgery, casting off my gloves and gown and quickly scrubbing out before I hurry down the hall to the conference room. I burst through the doors, happy to see that most everyone has already arrived. I pull my scrub cap off before I speak.
"Thank you all for coming, especially those of you who were off today. There's been an incident, and I'm going to need all hands on deck. Everyone needs to pull together. Dr. Preston's mother passed away, and he and Dr. Yang will be out indefinitely. With their absence, we're even more short staffed than normal. Because of this, and the fact that Dr. Sloane and I will be out of town for the funeral, I'm going to assign you all to specific departments that you'll be responsible for until further notice. Before I give you your assignments, does anyone have any questions, comments?"
