Today is Lucas's last day of being 6-years-old. You have never seen a child so excited about a birthday as he is right now. I hope it's everything he wants it to be, though I don't really know what he is expecting. We are doing our best to make it special for him. I suspect it will be enough.

Went to bed before 10:30 p.m. last night. Slept well despite Ian's hacking and coughing fits. Eventually the codeine cough suppressant he took kicked in and he slept, too. Despite Asher being sick today, I managed to work 6 hours and 42 minutes. That's nothing short of a miracle, considering how crappy he felt and how he really doesn't like me to get anywhere near my computer-unless it's to show him "manamana" or "Elmo's Song" clips on YouTube. Scene: Nursing Asher in my bed, clothes on but rumpled.

Asher: (signing) milk good! "Nom, nom!"
Me: "Mama milk is good?"
Asher: (grinning) "Yeah! Nom, nom, nom."

Dad continues to recover well. It's a slow process. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Mom's long work days, so it’s a long day alone for Dad. Some things we just didn't anticipate: We arranged for my friend Cate to cook for Mom and Dad this month. She's bringing two meals for four people every week. Other hand is wrapped around my feverish baby. Not getting much done, although that was my plan for today. I've nursed him, sung songs, read stories, recited nursery rhymes, showed him pictures, read him LJ posts, served food and ice-water-nothing cheers him up. He's naked, hot, and lethargic, poor baby!

A while ago I alluded to my recent crisis. The “crisis” turned out not to be one, so rest easy. I want to write about it because ... well ... because I learned stuff that other people might want to know.
