sapphicwarrior.livejournal.com/49147.html NEW PART:
Erica landed in Washington DC a few hours later. She barely remembered anything from the flight. Her mind was blank and her heart had never hurt more. She didn’t bother to go back to her place and freshen up before meeting McKinney, she went straight to the Headquarters of the FBI. She didn’t care about her dishevelled appearance, she didn’t care she didn’t look like the professional she was once, she didn’t care at all. Still with her luggage in hands, she walked through the building to McKinney’s office. She was upset, she was angry and for once she wasn’t about to hide it. No, McKinney would be on the receiving end of her anger.
She busted into his office without knocking. The secretary tried to stop her, saying he couldn’t be disturbed, but she didn’t care.
McKinney looked up when he heard his door being slammed open. He was surprised to see Erica standing there.
“Agent Hahn, what’s the meaning of this?”
“The meaning of this? You took me off the case and wanted me back ASAP, so here I am.”
“You can’t just come busting into my office like this.”
“Oh yes I can.”
Erica was fuming. She was getting angrier by the second.
“Close the door please, Claudia”, McKinney said to his secretary.
Claudia quickly closed the door.
“Why did you take me off the case?” Erica demanded to know.
“You left your suspect to go to New York with some singer…” McKinney started.
“And I have a valid reason for that”, Erica angrily said. “First you force me to go undercover and now you take me off the case just like that! You can’t do that!”
“Oh yes I can, Agent Hahn. I’m still your superior.”
“Superior my ass!” She took out her gun and her badge and threw it on McKinney’s desk. “I’m doing something I should have done a long time ago. I resign, Director McKinney. You can find another puppet with strings to play with!”
“You are not resigning, Agent Hahn.”
“Yes I am!” Erica was practically yelling at this point. She was losing control fast. She had never felt this anger inside her. She picked up her bag and started marching out of his office.
“Agent Hahn, you are not leaving this office until you have debriefed me about the case in LA.”
Erica turned around. “Debrief you? Are you fucking kidding me? I think you know all you need to know from the LA office. Ask them to debrief you, they are taking over anyway. They seem to know it better anyway. I have nothing more to say to you or anyone else in this building. I’m quitting.”
“I expect you tomorrow at 9am. You’ll be having desk duty until your disciplinary hearing is over. And you know you can’t contact anyone from the case anymore. End of discussion.”
Erica slammed the door and angrily left his office.
***************************************************************************
Callie was sitting in her room, anxiously waiting for some news from Erica. She was clutching her cell phone like a lifebuoy.
Ring…
Callie picked up after one ring.
“Hey, Callie”, she heard Erica’s voice on the other side.
“Hey, baby. How are you? Have you already talked to your boss?”
“I’m okay”, Erica lied. “And yes, I’ve already spoken to him. I resigned, but I can’t leave yet. The disciplinary hearing is in two weeks. Until then I can’t leave.”
“I miss you”, Callie softly said.
“I miss you too, sweetie. I have to go. I love you.”
“Love you too.”
She knew Erica had lied when she said she was okay. She didn’t sound okay, she sounded far from okay. She wished she could hold Erica and take all her pain away. She knew there was something Erica wasn’t telling her about the whole situation and that bothered her. But she trusted Erica and knew she’d tell her when she could.
***************************************************************************
The next few days went by in a blur for both Erica and Callie. Erica showed up at work but refused to speak to anyone or do anything unless she was forced to do it. She didn’t care about her career anymore, it now seemed so useless. What was a nice career when she didn’t have Callie?
Callie locked herself up in the house and refused to talk to anyone. She kept staring at the screen of her cell phone, hoping for a call or a text from Erica, but the screen stayed black. No incoming calls or text messages from Erica. The only call she had gotten, had been from Jason and she was meeting him later. She was more determined than ever to break up with him. She wanted to do it over the phone, but decided better against it. She looked at her watch. Jason would be here any minute now. She didn’t bother to dress up for him. She had only invited him here to break up with him.
The doorbell announced his arrival. She wished Erica was here, she missed her more than ever.
“Jason”, she greeted him. “Come in.”
He tried to kiss her, but she didn’t let him.
“We have to talk”, she simply said.
She took him to the living room.
“Talk? What do you mean we have to talk?” Jason had a feeling he knew what was coming.
“Sit down, Jason. I’m gonna talk and you’re gonna listen.” Jason sat down.
“This thing between us isn’t going anywhere. I don’t love you as I’m supposed to do seeing you’re my boyfriend. So… I’m breaking up with you, Jason”, Callie calmly said. She had never thought she’d be able to break up with him so calmly.
Jason got up. “You’re breaking up with me? The hell you are! You are mine! You’re not breaking up with me!”
“Oh yes I am, Jason. I don’t love you. And frankly I’ve had it with you hitting me too!”
“Women have to be hit now and then, so they will listen. And now you’ll listen to me, Calliope, or …”
“Or what? You’ll hit me again? You’re pathetic excuse of a man. You call yourself a man, but you can’t even get a woman to listen to you without hitting her. Well, this woman isn’t listening to you anymore!”
Jason got dangerously close to Callie. “You’ll never find another man again; you’re too ugly, too fat. No one else wants you, you should be glad I took you.”
“That’s where you are wrong!”
Before Callie knew what hit her, Jason had grabbed her neck again and a fistful of hair too.
“You’ve been cheating on me, you fucking bitch! Who is he? Who is the fucking bastard?”
“Fuck you!” Callie merely said and she spat him in the face.
“You fucking bitch! You’ll regret this. I’ll make sure no man ever touches you again.”
“Don’t worry, no man will ever touch me again!”
Suddenly it dawned on Jason what had been in front of his eyes all the time.
“You fucking dyke, you cheated on me with that blonde whore!”
Jason lost all control and hit Callie hard in her face. She felt her nose breaking and she fell to the floor. Blood was streaming out. Jason kicked her hard on her ribs. She cried out in pain. She could hardly breathe. She felt like there wasn’t any air left in her lungs. He continued hitting her and kicking her. When she didn’t move anymore, he left the house.
Callie’s last thought before drifting into unconsciousness was of Erica…
***************************************************************************
Erica was sleeping when her cell phone woke her up. Years of being an FBI Agent had taught her to be awake immediately and pick up after the first ring.
“Hahn”, she said into the phone.
“Agent Hahn, this is Sergeant Sterchele from the LAPD”, Erica heard a familiar voice on the other side of the phone.
Erica checked her watch. It was 4am. Why was Sterchele calling her in the middle of the night? She quickly calculated. It was 1am in LA. Calls in the middle of the night never meant anything good.
“What’s wrong, Sergeant?” she asked in a fear filled voice. She was already up and putting on clothes. She took a bag out of the closet and started filling it with clothes.
“Ms. Torres was found unconscious in her house last night”, the Sergeant tentatively said.
“Oh my god! Is she okay? Is Callie okay?”
“She was brought to the hospital. She has extensive injuries, but she’s stabile. We don’t know what happened. There’s traces of burglary too. Her bedroom and bathroom have been searched.”
“That bastard, that fucking bastard”, Erica angrily said.
“Excuse me?” Sterchele asked confused.
“I know what happened, Sergeant. I can’t go into details, but Jason Taylor is responsible for this. Don’t arrest him. He’s mine. He’ll be sorry he ever touched Callie. I have to fly in from DC. I’ll be there ASAP. Just don’t arrest Jason. That pleasure will be all mine.”
Fifteen minutes later Erica was on her way to the airport. She’d call work tomorrow to let them know she wouldn’t be coming. She booked the first flight out. It was already halfway through the morning when she landed in LA. She had only packed some hand luggage, so she didn’t have to wait and she could go straight to the hospital. Suddenly it dawned on her that she didn’t know what hospital Callie was in.
“Sergeant, it’s Agent Hahn. What hospital is Callie in?” she asked the LA police officer on the phone.
“UCLA. She’s asking for you. I’ve just seen her. She confirmed it’s Jason Taylor who injured her.”
“Tell her I’m on my way.”
She took a cab and showed him her ID. “UCLA as quickly as you can”, she barked to him.
The drive seemed to take hours in Erica’s mind. All kind of scenarios were going through her mind. She couldn’t wait to arrest that bastard. As soon as the cab driver pulled into the parking lot of the hospital, she took out a twenty and rushed inside the hospital. She didn’t care about hiding her true identity anymore and flashed her ID at the reception to find out which room Calliope Torres was in. She almost ran through the corridors. She saw a uniform posted outside Callie’s room.
“Special Agent Erica Hahn”, she said showing her ID. She didn’t wait for an acknowledgement from the police officer, but she went straight into the room.
“Oh my god”, Erica murmured. Callie looked awful. Her nose was swollen, and so was her left eye. Her left arm was in a sling. She quickly went to the bed and took Callie’s hand in her own.
“Oh Callie, what has he done to you?” she softly said. That woke Callie up. She opened her good eye and saw Erica standing there.
“Erica?” she questioned.
“Yes, baby, I’m here.”
Callie started crying from relief. Erica quickly took her in her arms and tried comforting her. After a while Callie calmed down.
“What happened?” she gently asked. “You don’t have to tell me if you’re not ready.”
“I broke up with him and he started hitting me. Then I woke up here in the hospital. How did you find out?”
“Sergeant Sterchele called and told me what had happened. I took the first plane out. I’m so sorry, Callie, I should have been there when you broke up with him. I’m so sorry”, Erica apologized.
“It’s not your fault, Erica.” Callie looked at the blonde woman. She looked different somehow, the clothes, the appearance. “You look different.”
Suddenly it dawned on Erica that without thinking she had put on her “FBI uniform” as she called it. She was even wearing her gun.
“I do? I’m still the same”, she tried assuring Callie.
At that moment Sergeant Sterchele came into the room.
“Ms. Hahn, I’m glad you came. Can I speak to you for a moment?” he asked.
Erica nodded. “I’ll be right back, Cal. I’ll be just outside your room.”
Once outside, Erica was immediately in full FBI mode again.
“Do you have a lead on Jason Taylor yet?” she asked.
“We are surveying his house. But no sign of him yet.”
“Have you been in contact with the FBI yet concerning him? The LA Office is handling his case now”, Erica said with disdain in her voice. If McKinney hadn’t thrown her off the case, none of this wouldn’t have happened.
“No, we haven’t. I contacted you first.”
“I’ve been taken off the case, but I have an idea where he might be. He’s working now with Rodriguez, the big Mexican drug dealer. Have you found anything in Callie’s house?”
“It was bizarre that only her bedroom and bathroom were searched. We think some medicine bottles have been taken. The medicine cabinet was nearly empty.”
“Damn it”, Erica cursed. “He kept drugs hidden in Callie’s house in medicine bottles. I had it checked and there was cocaine, speed and XTC in some bottles. That bastard.”
Anger was filling up Erica. She knew if she saw Jason she’d have a hard time hiding her personal feelings for him. She had to arrest him as soon as possible because McKinney would soon find out she had left DC and then all hell would break lose.
“Take away the uniform posted outside Callie’s room. Most abusers don’t think they did anything wrong and come to the hospital afterwards to try and make things right again. I’ll be in Callie’s room. I have a feeling he might come for her. As soon as he steps inside the room, he’s mine.”
“Won’t that blow your cover with Ms. Torres?” the Sergeant asked.
“Yes, it will, but I have to tell her anyway, she deserves the truth.”
Sterchele send the uniform away and Erica went back into Callie’s room. Callie had fallen asleep, so she simply sat beside her, ready in case Jason would enter the room.
Suddenly her cell phone rang.
“Hahn.”
“He’s coming.”
The ringing had woken Callie up, but Erica didn’t see that. Jason was on his way to Callie’s room. Where did the bastard get the nerve? Erica went to stand beside the door so that Jason wouldn’t see her when he opened the door. Her heart was hammering in her chest. Never before had she felt this nervous and excited to arrest someone. She put her hand on her gun and opened the safety holder.
The door opened and Jason entered the room. He closed the door.
When Callie saw who came in, fear etched on her face.
Jason didn’t have time to get near the bed. Erica pulled out her gun.
“Special Agent Erica Hahn, don’t move!” she yelled at him.
Jason turned around. “I said: DON’T MOVE, you bastard.” She pointed her gun at him.
“Special Agent?” Callie said.
“Jason Taylor, you are under arrest for attempted man slaughter on Calliope Torres, for burglary in said person’s house and for drug dealing. You have the right to remain silent, everything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney, if you can’t afford one, the state will provide you one.”
Erica took out her handcuffs and cuffed him.
Sergeant Sterchele came in the room. “He’s all yours, Sergeant. Call the LA Office.”
Sterchele took Jason by his arm and guided him out of the room. Jason didn’t protest, he was too surprised with what had just happened.
When Jason was gone, Erica slowly turned around. Fear and confusion were written all over Callie’s face.
“Special Agent Erica Hahn? Special Agent as in FBI Agent?” Callie asked. And suddenly it dawned on her who Erica really was….
