Ha!  Caught you off-guard with a Gaiman book, and there's a reason for that.

Imbibe! by David Wondrich is an interesting book about cocktails.

It starts off with a history - a lot of it centered around Jerry Thomas, the legendary bartender from the 19th and early 20th century and author of the first book about cocktails.

The Complete Book of Spirits by Anthony Dias Blue attempts to cover almost every spirit you can imagine.  It's broken down into chapters by type of spirit, starting with vodka and going (for whatever reason) to aquavit through various kinds of whiskey and rum and such on...

Now this was a fun book!

While Straight Up or On the Rocks was more of a historical book, this one is more of a fun recipe book.  Almost all the recipes have anecdotes and history behind them, and at times Ted Haigh (aka Dr. Cocktail) will go into more details on certain ingredients.

It took me forever to finish this one.

This is mostly due to the fact that it was my "lunchtime" book, and during this span of time I stopped going out to lunch every day.  Instead, days like today, I eat at my desk, saving money and time.
