The Stuggle Of The Self

► I've long suspected I'm falling apart, but it seems to be worse lately. For the past several days I've had a weird tingling ache in the muscles on the left side of my back. They feel perpetually tensed. In addition to that last night after waking up from a nap I found I have some sore cankers far back on my tongue. Hopefully both problems will clear up soon.

At the moment I'm actually feeling pretty good. The last several days have been incredibly touchy for me. Almost 2 weeks since I last stepped out of the apartment and my dread over having to go out today for groceries and odds and ends has been building. In fact, the above aches and pains are most likely stress induced. Or at least that's what I'm assuming.

Actually, I suppose the canker sores could be from my fasting since Sunday, since I've been completely terrified about having to going out today. The days of my eating a late dinner and being able to bike alone across town to the adult high school just 10 years ago might as well have been a million years ago. My nerves were so bad that I couldn't really sleep last night and I've been up since 1:30am, and all morning long I felt sick from worry and anxiety. Shaving and showering was a bit of a comedic movie montage as I accidentally dumped a handful of shaving gel into the bathroom vanity drawer and then knocked over shampoo bottles while showering.

Long story short, I still went out, forcing myself to, so it's another minor victory in my never-ending tug-of-war with myself. Er... that's a figure of speech.

► All in all, it was a productive day. Hit the comic book shop for my monthly visit (they might as well start calling me Aunt Irma there), the grocery store to pick up stuff for my grandmother (I bought some things too), to grandmother's house, and then finally to Walmart for the rest of my stuff. At the comic book shop I picked up my 3 comic books, magazine and comic book bags, and my Eaglemoss Big Barda lead figurine/magazine set. I also asked Randy, the shop owner, to place the upcoming Kirby: Genesis comic book series on my pull list, and pre-ordered the Soranik Natu DC Direct action figure (it's in a Green Lantern figure 4 figure set that won't be out until December).

The big surprise for me today was at Walmart. I picked up the brunt of my groceries, toiletries, and apartment items and Dad and I circled around past the outer DVD displays on our way to the checkout lines. When Deana bought me that DVD, Community: Season 1, last week as a thank you, it renewed my desire to get The Mentalist: Season 2 soon. I think that was her first choice to buy me, but the DVD was still $50. On the weekend I considered the idea of just buying it today but ultimately I couldn't rationalize it for right now. Boy was I happy when I saw the set in a sale display marked down for $20. A sixty percent discount? Yes please!

► While I understand the need for catharsis after 10 years of pain 2 wars that seem increasingly meaningless, and also think Osama Bin Laden was an evil man, I can't help but find all the partying, joy and excitement over the death of another human being somewhat unsettling.

Weirdest part, however, is seeing people in the American news media comparing it to the US "getting" and killing Hitler at the end of WWII. Didn't he shoot himself?

Mattel Announces Kilowog, Swamp Thing, Voltron and Stay Puft Exclusives for Comic-Con [Video] - I would very much like to have the Swamp Thing and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man figures. Very much.

It's A Depressing World, Part 1: DreamWorks Artist Accused of Shooting Puppy, Hammering it to Death - That's just sick. I can't think of a better way to put it.

It's A Depressing World, Part 2: Attack of the 50 Foot Woman Star Yvette Vickers Found Mummified in Home - She had apparently been dead in her home for a year before neighbours noticed all the cobwebs and piles of old mail collecting. No one should have to die like that, so alone as to be forgotten.

Kerry Callen: Star Wars Deleted Scene - It only just now occurred to me, if I ever had a sub/slave, that'd be a great outfit for her to have to wear.

8 Real & Fictional Addresses of Superheroes in New York City - It's a wonder Marvel Comics don't just name their comics the New York City Universe.

Green Lantern movie banner: Is that Boodikka on the far left? Awesome!
