My mom passed away yesterday afternoon. We were planning on being there today, but my dad called us yesterday around 2:30 to let us know we should come "sooner rather than later." The doctor gave my mom a few days and the nurse recommended keeping the kids home from school tomorrow. I'm really tense but I know it's time.

I have a week and a half left of this class, and then we move onto Strategies of Marketing Management. I think that'll allow me to start going back to the gym, and perhaps I can set up regular appointments with a trainer. My goal is to drop the weight I'm sure I gained back this year by not going to the gym and then drop another size. We'll see ( Read more... )

My mom's vital signs were very low this morning, so they took her to hospice. It's rather trying, because no one knows what's going on, there are so many questions to ask/answer, and really, the older kids are being put in charge. My family prays the Prayer of Abandonment every night at the end of dinner. It was written by Charles de Foucald, and is pretty intense. It's especially intense for me as I watch my mom suffer. I remember praying this as a family when my parents found out that the cancer was back and spreading. It definitely meant more to me then than it ever ( Read more... )

I think I'm going to be like Mary and start carrying Kleenex with me, especially when I go to Mass. I'm not one who cries often, but when I do cry it's normally when I'm trying to sleep, in my sleep, or at Mass. Don't ask why church makes me cry, but it does. Things are so chaotic right now. My mom is going downhill fast; faster than we thought she would. I'm trying to rearrange my schedule so I can go there after work just to visit for a few minutes. My mom called yesterday to let me know she had to go to the cancer center to get hydrated. I guess she had been puking most of the night and hadn't been able to keep down food or drink. I think everyone agrees that it's hard to know what to say to people that are clearly suffering, especially when it seems that there's no hope that the suffering is going to end. I've been slowly moving music off my laptop to my external hard drive and I'm about halfway through it. I'm going through my iTunes directory and moving off non-iTunes proprietary music. It's slow going, but now I have 23 GB available on my C-drive. Yay! Eventually I'll move the rest of my iTunes directory to my external hard drive, but I don't ( Read more... )
