About a month ago my Chaya kitty had to have a tooth pulled. She had been feeling very poorly for the week or two prior to having it pulled. She didn't want to eat. She hid in the closet. The verdict is in and Calli is indeed in the early stages of kidney disease. Fortunately, it is early stages. Unfortunately, since my finances were so tied up with taking care of Rosebud in the summer, I didn't get Calli a urine test when she stopped eating for a couple of days during the summer. Last week I took both Inky and Calli to the vet. I made sure to schedule them for when the nice vet was working. (There are two vets in the clinic we use, and one of them is the one who tried to convince me to spend $3,000 to have Rosebud's teeth removed when it turned out she had cancer and removing her teeth would not have done her any good.) Since sometime in late March/early April, Chaya Kitty has been on a special diet food. It's called Metabolic Diet. It's not terribly expensive, so other than the hassle of having to make a special trip to the vet to get it, it's not a big deal ( Read more... )

Ever since I adopted Rosebud, sleeping with my cats has been a bit more complicated than it used to be. Rosie likes to sleep between my legs for some unknown reason, which is not entirely comfortable for me. Calli likes to sleep in the middle of my torso. I keep forgetting/procrastinating on calling the vet to find out whether Rosebud has this bacteria causing her mouth and eye problems. I hope she does have that rather than having an autoimmune disease that will make her teeth fall out, because a bacterial infection can be treated (though giving antibiotics to even a reasonably cooperative cat like ( Read more... )

Last night, after Chaya woke me up by growling at Rosebud, there was a temporary truce between the two of them because Chaya wanted to sleep next to me and Rosebud was already sleeping next to me.
