For all I'm a creative person with a unique mind, I am very boring.

Really, life's not half bad. I really wanted that job, but at least I still have my campus one. I have friends. I'm doing well with homework. I am tougher than people think I am, and I'm losing weight. I've got rhythm and music (well, not really), and honestly, who could ask for anything more?

Quite a bit, actually. I have a hyphenated last name, which I've fought long and hard to preserve. In high school, everyone would ask, "What'll you do when you get married? What if your husband [yes, that was the assumption] has a hyphenated last name too? What'll you call yourself? What'll you call your kids?" My response was invariably some ( Read more... )

When I'm sad, it's pathetic; when I'm angry, it's unwarranted; and when I'm regretful, it's about the wrong things.

Today was my first day of class. So far so good, though I'll be the first to admit that one day isn't much to go on. After one of the meetings, two of my classmates were saying that they were glad they hadn't been asked why they were taking the course. "How," they asked, "can you say 'only because I have to?'" Election day is tomorrow. I didn't particularly do anything on behalf of Obama's campaign, so if the election (God forbid) doesn't swing his way, I'll blame myself personally for it.

When something is wrong, I often get this feeling in my chest; it's like I'm being constricted. Right now, I'm feeling constricted, and there's a sort of danger signal going off in my head, but I have no idea what it's in response to. I hate ambient distress.

Recently, I started thinking about Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, which I haven't read all the way through since I was twelve or thirteen. I've started rereading it, and there's all kinds of stuff that affects me that didn't when I was in middle school.
